The Hobbit and the Lord of the Ringswas an excellent read. It had a compelling that intrigued and excited me. The writing was amazing and clear. I really enjoyed the book. The book left me feeling and satisfied and contented I would recommend this book for all. It is definitely worth buying. Both great books.
The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit are amazing books. Full of adventure, excitement, suspense, mystique, grandeur, and amazing and lovable character's this amazing series is probably one of the greatest stories of all time. With culture and tradition highly ingrained in the story these books feel close at times to actual myth. Highly recommended.
Hobbits are, of course, small, furry creatures who love nothing better than a leisurely life quite free from adventure. But in that first novel and the Lord of the Rings trilogy, the hobbits Bilbo and Frodo and their elvish friends get swept up into a mighty conflict with the dragon Smaug, the dark lord Sauron (who owes much to proud Satan in Paradise Lost), the monstrous Gollum, the Cracks of Doom, and the awful power of the magical Ring. The four books' characters--good and evil--are recognizably human, and the realism is deepened by the magnificent detail of the vast parallel world Tolkien devised, inspired partly by his influential Anglo-Saxon scholarship and his Christian beliefs. (He disapproved of the relative sparseness of detail in the comparable allegorical fantasy his friend C.S. Lewis dreamed up in The Chronicles of Narnia, though he knew Lewis had spun a page-turning yarn.) It has been estimated that one-tenth of all paperbacks sold can trace their ancestry to J.R.R. Tolkien. But even if we had never gotten Robert Jordan's The Path of Daggers and the whole fantasy genre Tolkien inadvertently created by bringing the hobbits so richly to life, Tolkien's epic about the Ring would have left our world enhanced by enchantment. --Tim Appelo
A great buy for any LOTF fan! With this pack, you can follow the story of the Ring right from the beginning to the end, as you begin with The Hobbit and end with The Return of The King. The Hobbit is one of the poorer books, in my opinion, but it is rather funny in some times, and of course a must read if you want to fully understand the series!
An essential collection to follow the story of the ring from start to finish. The Hobbit sets up the story for the Lord of the Rings and they cannot be fully appreciated without it. The Lord of the Rings is the best fantasy series ever written and although it's a bit heavy the locations, characters and story are brilloiantly detailed and you wont be able to stop reading until you've turned the last page.
This is the lord of the rings set and the hobbit. The hobbit is explaining how Bolbo meets the wizard Gandalf and finds a ring that makes the wearer invisible. Then the story carries on with the true identity of the ring revealed and its evil maker wanting it back! Will they find a way to get rid of the ring to a safe place or will they even make it to safty?
The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit are the epic adventure / fantasies of our time. They are commonly regarded as the best books ever written- and reading them does not disappoint. The battles are beautifully staged and absolutely realistic (Tolkien wrote some of the battle scenes while serving in the wars) and the characters are wonderfully sculpted. The 4-part series introduces a full range of emotions from dread and fear to exhilaration and love. A perfect story!
An epic tale of good and evil that, in my opinion is vastly superior to the films. Tolkien's writing can take a while to get through, but in my opinion getting to see Frodo and the Fellowship's journey through middle earth to save the world is seen in a new light.
I read these books just before Return Of the King came out in cinema's, because I thought the movies had been so good that I didn't want to wait to see how it all turned out. I definitly do not regret spending money on these books.
