Ichigo Kurosaki has always been able to see ghosts, but this ability doesn't change his life nearly as much as his close encounter with Rukia Kuchiki, a shinigami and member of the mysterious Soul Society.
From The Publisher:
Ichigo Kurosaki has always been able to see ghosts, but this ability doesn't change his life nearly as much as his close encounter with Rukia Kuchiki, a shinigami and member of the mysterious Soul Society. While fighting a Hollow, an evil spirit that preys on humans who display psychic energy, Rukia attempts to lend Ichigo some of her powers so that he can save his family, but much to her surprise, Ichigo absorbs every last drop of her energy. Now a full-fledged shinigami himself, Ichigo quickly learns that the world he inhabits is one full of dangerous spirits, and along with Rukia, who is slowly regaining her powers, it's Ichigo's job to both protect the innocent from Hollows and to help the spirits themselves find peace.

Bleach tells the story of Kurosaki Ichigo, a normal 15 year old Japanese school-boy in every sense...well, except that he's been able to see ghosts since he was little, and recently he's begun to talk and touch them too. Then enters Kuchiki Rukia, a shinigami (reaper) from Soul Society, whose mission it is to take good spirits to the other side, whilst dispatching Hollows, vicious monsters that feed on good spirits. A vicious fight leaves Ichigo as a reluctant shinigami and Rukia drained of her power, thus forcing her to inhabit Ichigo's closet while he carries out missions that she's unable to.
A really solid beginning to this hugely popular long-running manga series. Kubo Tite's art is detailed and stylish, and the plot so far is captivating; there's a real contemporary appeal and attitude to this, whilst fusing aspects of Japanese belief and tradition concerning death and ghosts. Really worth getting if you're into the shounen action genre.
Bleach by Kubo Tite starts off introducing the main character, Kurosaki Ichigo (strawberry), who we think is just you ordinary 15 year old teenager with an attitude; but shortly we find out he's not. Ichigo explains that ever since he was young he has been able to see ghosts, and recently been able to touch and speak to them! ...
Bleach is Kubo Tite's second hit series after "Zombie Powder".
One of the strengths of Bleach is how Kubo breathes fun and interesting personalities into his characters with his great designs. Ichigo has his t-shirts, Orihime and her hairpins and "F cup", Rukia and her gadgets and so on. Each chapter Features complete quirky original artwork, where he dresses up his characters in flamboyant outfits to give them; real cool, hip look. It's these little things that give BLEACH it's "flare"
BLEACH is still being released in Japan today with over 200 chapters (25 volumes) to date!!
