Jack Reacher. Hero. Loner. Soldier. Soldier's son. An elite military cop, he was one of the army's brightest stars. But in every cop's life there is a turning point. One case. One messy, tangled case that can shatter a career. Turn a lawman into a renegade. And make him question words like honor, valor, and duty. For Jack Reacher, this is that case. New Year's Day, 1990. The Berlin Wall is coming down. The world is changing. And in a North Carolina "hot-sheets" motel, a two-star general is found dead. His briefcase is missing. Nobody knows what was in it. Within minutes Jack Reacher has his orders: Control the situation. But this situation can't be controlled. Within hours the general's wife is murdered hundreds of miles away. Then the dominoes really start to fall. Two Special Forces soldiers--the toughest of the tough--are taken down, one at a time. Top military commanders are moved from place to place in a bizarre game of chess. And somewhere inside the vast worldwide fortress that is the U.S. Army, Jack Reacher--an ordinarily untouchable investigator for the 110th Special Unit--is being set up as a fall guy with the worst enemies a man can have. But Reacher won't quit. He's fighting a new kind of war. And he's taking a young female lieutenant with him on a deadly hunt that leads them from the ragged edges of a rural army post to the winding streets of Paris to a confrontation with an enemy he didn't know he had. With his French-born mother dying--and divulging to her son one last, stunning secret--Reacher is forced to question everything he once believed...about his family, his career, his loyalties--and himself. Because this soldier's son is on his way into thedarkness, where he finds a tangled drama of desperate desires and violent death--and a conspiracy more chilling, ingenious, and treacherous than anyone could have guessed.

An excellent read. The storyline held me enthralled for the majority of the book and had me guessing throughout. Has opened a new series of novels for me as this was the first Lee Child book I had read. Can't wait to read another based on my experience with this one.
Wow! I love all the Jack Reacher books, but believe this one is the best one. He hooks you in from page three and takes you on a roller coaster ride! Hard to put down, tough to figure out who done it, and he always gets the girl! Great stuff.
One of my favourite in all the Reacher books as it has some history of the man and his life and family. I love all the Lee Child books but this one really looked inside the man and how he came to be the sort of man he is. You learn about Reacher's mother and her dark history as well as meeting Jack's brother Joe and what happened to him and why he doesn't feature in more stories. I love the thrill and excitement of all the Reacher books but I have often wondered what lead him to become a loner and why he continues with his almost aimless life of wondering around America with no fixed abode, no personal effects apart from a toothbrush and access card. Why would a man do that? Well this book gives you the answers. I didn't read the first six books in any particular order and you don't have to, they don't have to be read in a series. This one is one of the better ones in that it gives you some of the answers to the man and his life. Rated AAA++
A great and intense book. You go way back when reacher was in the army and a whole lot of murders are linked and reacher has to figure them out. Good story line and well writen, another great story by lee child and a must read and buy it you are into the series. You learn things about reacher that you didn't know and his brother joe come up quite a bit.

I have thoroughly enjoyed this book. It's the 1st Jack Reacher novel I have read that was before his "drifter" days. As always, lots of action, twist and turns and I don't think it's quite as "predictable' as some of his other novels. I can highlly recommend this novel and it would be a good starting point for someone just starting to read the Jack Reacher series...
I got this on special and it was the best ten dollars I have ever spent. As much fun as they are the Jack Reacher books are quite predictable in their formula.
This isn't.
Along with a good insite into jack Reacher's life and modern personality the book itself is a well put totgether thriller/mystery as well as having all the action Reacher fans (myself included) have come to expect. I particularily like the pieces with Jack's brother Joe Reacher int hem and wish the character could have been featured in more books (if you have read the first book Killing Floor you will know why he can't be).
This is an absolutely fantastic book. We continue to learn more and more about Jack Reacher, his relationships with his family, friends and the Army. 5 stars!
A very action packed book. One of Lee Childs best. The Enemy is very well written, with action happening on pretty much every page. Anybody that enjoys any other Lee Child books should definately get this one. Anybody who enjoys a good action packed novel that moves at a fast pace should get this.
