– Customer review on 11/04/2006 The second volume in Conrwell's stunning "Warlord Chronicles" trilogy carries on the story of Arthur and his attempts to unite the tribes into the Brotherhood of Britain. Working against him thought are a number of factors: Lancelot & Guinevere's betrayal, Mordred's lack of character and wisdom; the Christians rejection of Arthur as 'the enemy of God'; and Merlin's determination to restore the old gods in the face of the growing religion called Christianity.
Cornwell creates an awesome character in Arthur- he is incredibly idealistic, almost the archetypal hero, but he is also believavle, which means it is easy to believe in him (we sense Derfal's - our narrator - love and devotion for his king also). A fantastic series - a must-read; in my opinion, this series is Cornwells best work.
