Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter for Animators, Inc., is offered a cool mil to raise a 283-year-old corpse. But she knows that "the older the zombie, the bigger the death needed to raise it". Only a human sacrifice is "big" enough to raise this old soul--and Anita's no murderer.
From The Publisher:

The laughing corpse is a dodgy club in a dodgy city.
A dodgy guy offers Anita a lot of cash to do a dodgy job. This job is to raise the dead in a way that is a no-no. She refuses, but someone else does it.
Then the dead bodies start turning up, and the police and Anita have to investigate. She still has human friends at the time, too.
The second in the Anita Blake series, this book is great and a must read for anyone into the supernatural world. Anita Blake takes you into a world with legal vampires, zombie raising (as a night job), were-wolves and all types of other-worldly creatures. With the master vampire of the city chasing Anita (and not for blood), this series will leave you craving more. For best reading, this series should be read in order.
This book is excellent - the characters are well formed and the imagery is well crafted. The seamless blend of fact and fiction is so well done that suspending disbelief causes only minor problems, and then only when the fiction overpowers the sense of realism with which ‘Blake’ narrates. I liked this plot too – it’s fully formed and has closure at the end. This novel really stands alone, but for the best result be sure to read the previous novels first.
A delicious blend of horror and eroticism. Laurell Hamilton's vampire slayer,Anita Blake is beautifully drawn and cleverly realised- edgy, humourous, attractive and endowed with nerves of steel. All her other characters are highly plausible and equally enthralling. Wonderfully paced ,often horrific in parts but always engrossing. Anita has to deal with murderous hitmen,a Vaudun priestess and rampaging zombies this time. I can't wait for the next novel!
Number 2 in the Anita Blake verse, and a great follow up to Guilty Pleasures. This one sees Anita tango with some VERY dead zombies! (+ watch out for Sigmund!)
