New York Times bestselling author Laurell K. Hamilton offers a sexy, suspenseful new novel of human -- and inhuman -- passions, narrated by the vampire hunter known as Anita Blake...
"MY NAME IS ANITA BLAKE. I'D LIKE YOU TO MEET EDWARD...
'Edward was a hit man. He specialized in monsters. Vampires, shape-shifters, anything and everything. There were people like me who did it legal, but Edward didn't sweat the legalities or, hell, the ethics. He was an equal opportunity killer. I may be one of the few friends that Edward has, but it's like being friends with a tame leopard. It may curl on the foot of your bed and let you pet its head, but it can still eat your throat out...'"

When I first picked up the book, I thought my god it's huge! The book is much longer than the others in the Anita Blake series, not that this deterred me in the least I devoured this book as I do all by Laurell Hamilton, I am now a devoted fan.
Even though the book is very long, it is still not long enough and through parts of the book I flicked back to see if I missed pages as some parts let you assume things happened that Laurell would normally let you experience. That is the only gripe I have about this book :)
Many Laurell Hamilton fans are dismayed by the overt sexuality and amount of sex in the novels. I am not one of these fans, I think the sexuality is fabulous and along with the violence and gore makes all her novels oage turners and keeos the pace on the extreme dial. In this book however there is no gratuitous sex scenes so many fans will be gratified with that.
This book takes a look in to Edward, who Anita always hopes she will never become. He is the scariest "person" she knows which is saying a lot especially with her group of BDSM friends :)
Edward, Anita and recruits are hunting down the most gruesome monster I have ever met on my reading travels. The Murders are disgustingly gruesome and I said "Ewwww!" a lot out loud while reading this novel, but I loved it! I would not recommend it for anyone with a weak constitution.
Not my favourite Anita Blake book, though probably the one that affected me the most. I really missed Richard and Jean Claude in this novel though and will be happy to get back to them in my next reading :)
This is my favourite of the Anita Blake books. This one is more like the earlier books, meaning they aren't half filled with sex scenes or Anita whining about sex. This one is more bounty vampire hunter rather than vampire werewolf consort. It is also brilliant in the fact that Edward is a main character in it, it lets you know more information about him than the others do combined.
Brilliant book. Anyone interested in the vampire genre of books should read it.
The book is abit different as ANita is called on to leave her town and go help her friend Edward. It is good to get to see and read more about the elusive Edward and it was interesting to see her battle but as I love to read about Richard and Jean -Claude I found this book abit flat. She is having some space from the boys so although I did enjoy the story I was happy to move on to the next book to find out more about what was happening with her relationships
The Anita Blake series are simply fabulous reads. In this book Anita leaves St Louis and is working with another bounty hunter Edward. The characters in this book are very well-written and you get to see another side of Anita when she is not the baddest person out there which is quite refreshing. The Obsidian Butterfly is a fabulous vampire and a lot more scary than some of the others we meet in the series. A great read.
The Anita Blake adventures are a great popcorn read and while they aren;t works of art you can have a great time working your way through the series. Anita's sometime partner in monster hunting, Edward, makes a more substantial and welcome contribution to this book which elevates it above others in the series. The characters int hi stage of the game are also less cheesey with their magical powers and it makes for a more intense read.
Obsidian Butterfly is one of many Anita Blake outings. Always sexy and thrilling the Vampire Hunter will keep you on the edge of your seat. Shes out of her city St Loius this time and helping friend and othercreater hitman Edward. The book looses a little in separating Anita from her lovers and all the complications they bring. However learning more about the mysterious off and on character Edward makes for an interesting read.
