Only very recently introduced to Mary Janice Davidson and absolutely LOVE the Undead series. I have only just finished the 3rd installment and can't wait to find out what happens next. If you havent read the first 2 installments of the novel dont worry because you soon will. It is probably the most hooked I've been since the Harry Potters. Having said that this is no Harry Potter. Dont expect any complicated character building and well established plots. However, Mary Janice Davidson allows you to picture in vivid detail what you are reading so each book is an exciting movie playing in only your imagination. Just enjoy the ride, thrills and spills (both bloody and not). This is a fantastic book to curl up on the sofa with on those cold winter nights (or miserable rainy summer ones) or enjoy while sunbaking (make sure you slip, slop slap while your at it).
Most of Undead and Unappreciated focused on Betsy trying to find her half sister once she knew about her. According to this book, the devil was a woman and had possessed Antonia long enough to get pregnant and have the baby. After the baby was born, the devil didn’t care for taking care of a newborn and left Antonia’s body. The baby was adopted and would be old enough to be in college once Betsy started looking for her. Eric and Tina had concerns since the Book of the Dead said that Betsy’s sister would take over the world. I did think this part of the story was interesting even though it really didn’t add much mystery to the book. Once Betsy actually started looking, it took her practically no time to find her half sister. That didn’t make me like the book any less, though I would have enjoyed a stronger mystery. There was a small amount of action and some violence later in the book.
Betsy and Eric continued to have a turbulent relationship. Betsy was shocked when she finally realized her true feelings for him. Eric has been constant in what his feelings were for her since the first book. Their relationship did suffer for a while in the aftermath of Betsy being evil. Their relationship did improve once they finally talked a few things over. I liked it better once they had worked things out and Betsy wasn’t trying to pick fights with him all the time. There were a few sex scenes between them. The scenes were descriptive without being too graphic. The scenes may be too descriptive for some readers. Anyone that doesn’t like to read those types of scenes may want to stay away from this book. overall not bad
in the third installment of the wickedly funny 'undead' series. betsy kills the former owner of a night club, and thus by vampire lore is now the new owner (the things you do when you've got no family and no chance of having one!) but now all the faithful staff hate her and all but go on strike.
to make the tale even more interesting, betsy's attends the baby shower for her wicked step mother, who lets it slip that betsy has a long lost half sister is actually the daughter of the devil and is destined to rule the world.
she can't let that happen of course.
most people think their step mother's are the devil, but in this case, betsy is right!
This is my favourite book of this zany series. If you haven’t read the first two books, then stop, take a deep breath and check out those first. If you have, then this book you’ll love. For one, in her normal style, lots and lots and lots of problems get heaped onto our beloved Queen, which are resolved so smoothly during the plot that you reach the end wondering where they all went. It’s also strangely satisfying – mostly because you didn’t realise that there was actually a plot until the end, when you finally twig to the whole thing. Admittedly, the whole thing is character driven, and so can leave you wondering what’s going on at times, but then, it’s so great that you don’t care!
Another pleasing Betsy Taylor adventure from MJD. While the plot is not as defined in the first 2 books, that didn't really bother me, as the characters still kept me engaged throughout. I love the addition of Betsy's half-sister, the Spawn of Satan no less, usually the whole sister-from-nowhere thing gets mucked up (i.e. Buffy) but MJD pulled it off quite nicely here, and I really like how Betsy and Laura play off each other. And of course, it's nice to see that Eric and Betsy are finally together, in the proper sense, although it was always funny to read about how Betsy would brush him off when all she really wants is to swoon over him. I would have liked the plot to be a bit more developed but I still did enjoy the book, and it will be interesting to see what happens in Undead and Unreturnable. Now I just have to wait for it to be released as a paperback....
This book will amuse you to the end. Witty and funny and filled with attractive, delightfully quirky characters. From the shoe obsessed ditzy new Vampire Queen Betsy and her deliciously suave consort Sinclair to her newly discovered sweet but quick tempered step sister who is also the daughter of the Devil ,they will leave you laughing with their hilarious antics. A rollicking read but still way too short and not as action filled as the first two books either. More please!
Undead and Unappreciated is the third book in MaryJanice Davidson’s Betsy the Vampire Queen Series. Like her previous two books we have Betsy battling yet again her undead enemies with the help of her human friends, vampire allies and the incredibly sexy vampire King, Eric Sinclair. In this one, readers get introduced to Betsy’s long-lost half-sister who happens to be the daughter of the devil. It’s a laugh out loud read, bound to make any one happy. The only point not in her favour is that the books are notoriously short. Read the previous two first, ‘Undead and Unwed’ and ‘Undead and Unemployed’.
