This is the seventh book in the series and the vampire council is coming to town to cause heaps of trouble for everyone involved. On top of this someone has just begun burning down bussiness around town that are owned by vampires. Anita is out to catch the culprit while having to wade through a hip deep lake of vampire politics. This is an entertaing read but not the best in the series.
Laurell K Hamilton is a genius! Her Anita Blake series are impossible to put down. I absolutely love the dark vampire stories and this series is a must read. In this novel we meet the Vampire Council and learn more about Jean-Claude as a result. You can't help but feel for Richard in this book, his pain and his despair over Anita. We also meet the were-leopards who Anita is now in charge of, a fabulous story.
The greater sexual content in these books as we reach the later half of the series always annoyed me. I’m not a prude, but I find myself skipping vast chunks of sex in order to get to plot, and that is never a good sign. I don’t like this book – it lacks the complexity/simplicity of the earlier novels, and I always reach the end unsatisfied. I’d really love Hamilton to go back, edit much, much more and then publish a shorter, more intense book. I think for the die-hard fans, they’ll like it. Most of the others won’t.
This book is just a touch darker than the earlier ones in the series, and shows the nastier side of some of the characters. In Burnt Offerings we are finally taken up close and personal with the Vampire Council who show what the monsters are truly capable of. A pretty intense read but well worth it.
Not really into vampire novels, but this one is particularly well written, a great story anybody that wants something dark to read will enjoy. Alot of suspense in this one, this would be made into a movie very well. One of the better stories about vampires I've read. Very enjoyable.
Laurell Hamilton- her writing brings you into being part of her stories, she makes you feel like you are one of the characters, you feel their every pain their sorrow and their pleasure her books you cant put them down and nor do you want to until you finish them. I love Anita and i feel like i know her and Richard and Jean-Claude, they are all part of me now. i just keep comming back for more.
Wonderful! Laurell Hamilton writes with passionate enthusiasm. Her characters are vivid and powerful. In this installment, the deceptively dimunitive vampire huntress and necromancer Anita Blake has to contend with her ever developing latent powers as well as the visiting vampire council sent to test the Master of the City, Jean Claude and his people. As Jean Claude's lover and human servant, Anita has to call upon every bit of her necromancer and warrior skills. Jam packed with chills, action and erotic scenes, this is another great edition to the Anita Blake series.
