Anita has a falling out with the head of the local paranormal crimes unit, and traps him into admitting his prejudices against them, and being recorded. This is a distinct change in character from the first books, where she would be agreeing with him, most likely. More evidence of her completely distancing herself from normal humanity.

Even more so when she has to deal with the ruler of Jean-Claude's vampire line and another even more powerful female vampire ruler.

How do you fight this problem. Yep, you guessed it. Vampire threesome! Anita sandwich, or whatever you want to call it.

Still, a semblance of a plot here, as well.

As a huge fan of Laurell Hamilton's Anita Blake series I found this to be an alright read but not as brilliant as normal. The whole sex thing seems to be a bit overwhelming to the story line and is totally out of character from the Anita that we met in all of the earlier stories. With some interesting twists for Jean-Claude and a lot more than we ever wanted to know about Asher this book is interesting but not as good as normal.

Laurell Hamilton's style is refreshing and vividly abandoned. In this original and hugely entertaining installment in the perilous roller coaster life of that most enthralling of heroines, the sexy and plucky Anita Blake has to contend with the usual diverse horde of deadly night and were creatures. She finds herself confronting the vampire emissaries sent by Jean Claude's maker Belle Morte in a deadly dance of intrigue, bloodshed and erotic encounters. Another fascinating edition to the Hamilton library.
