Richard has discovered that he has the gift, but refuses the help offered to him by the sisters of the light to help him control it - he will not put a collar on again, as he is deadly afraid of them and the control they afford others over him. Without the collar, he will die. It is up to Kahlan to convince him to put it on, and to travel to a far away land to be trained, by making him 'prove his love to her', convincing him that she has cast him aside. A great story, and a great continuation for the Sword of Truth series.

As a follow-up to the Wizard's First Rule, readers will not be disappointed as the second book in the Sword of Truth series continues to take uson the adventures of Richard and Kahlan. Great combination of suspense, fantasy, adventure and romance. There are some gruesome scenes and your heart just goes out to the characters and Goodkind makes you hope that they will pull through whatever they are experiencing. Well-written and detailed. Great story-telling.

Not a bad series- started beautifully with Wizard’s First Rule. The books are great adventure stories displaying in parts enchanting magic, love, friendship, companionship and all-out action.

Unfortunately I found I had to skip a couple of chapters in a number of the books- they were way too gruesome (particularly some of the torture scenes). However, I think the later books in the series are an improvement- they have less horrific scenes.
