A great standalone book by one of my favourite authors, Sara Douglass. She delivers great characters in an amazingly well-drawn world, and really keeps you turning the pages. Not as traditional a sword-and-sorcery fantasy as some of her other books, and really does keep you turning the pages. It's almost a shame when it ends. Highly recommended.
