All the creatures of the night gather in "the Hollows" of Cincinnati, to hide, to prowl, to party ... and to feed. Vampires rule the darkness in a predator-eat-predator world rife with dangers beyond imagining -- and it's Rachel Morgan's job to keep that world civilized. A bounty hunter and witch with serious sex appeal and an attitude, she'll bring 'em back alive, dead ... or undead.
From The Publisher:
Rachel Morgan is a runner with the Inderland Runner Services, apprehending law-breakers throughout Cincinnati. She s also a witch, one of the many Inderlanders who revealed themselves after a genetically engineered virus wiped out 50% of humanity. Witches, warlocks, vampires, werewolves-the creatures of dreams and nightmares have lived beside humans for centuries, hiding their powers. But now they ve stopped hiding, and nothing will be the same.
On the run with a contract on her head, Rachel reluctantly teams up with Ivy, Inderland s best runner and a living vampire. But this witch is way out of her league, and to clear her name, Rachel must evade shapechanging assassins, outwit a powerful businessman/crimelord, and survive a vicious underground fight-to-the-death not to mention her own roommate!
Fun, sassy, filled with action, humor, and romance, Dead Witch Walking is the perfect summer read for anyone who likes vampires, paranormal fantasy, romance, or just a great beach book.

Review:
This is the first book in the hollows series and the first book that the author has ever wrote. This show because the book is a little rough around the edges. The main character is trying to extract herself from a situation that she got herself into. To do this she has to catch the city's local drug lord in a effort to pay off the price on her head. One of the best parts of the book is the interaction between Rachel and her two new room mates.
A good start to a good series.

This has one of the funniest concepts lurking in the background of anything I had read in a long time. Attack of the Killer Tomatoes. Literally. I can't believe she put that in there, as a tomato strain kills normal people, but not the supernatural types, of which the heroine is one.
This can leave people deathly afraid of pizza suace. Very amusing.
This is solidly entertaining. Harrison manages to prevent a degeneration into 'girly romance', although that is definitely an element.
An ex-government sponsored bounty hunter leaves her job, which may not be the greatest idea. She tries to set up on her own and navigate the world of vampires, withces, werewolves, and ex-managers with a grudge.
A partnership with a cool female vamp and a few pixies helps out. Conflict with the supervillain of the piece doesn't.
Rachel Morgan decides to seperate from the IS and work as a free-lance bounty harder. The problem is that the IS won't let her go that easy, placing a bounty on her head. From here she faces multiple dangers...whether it's the threat of the IS, her vampire friend (Ivy) or the drug lord she is trying to bring down.
I loved this book, admittedly it was a little slow to start with, but once it got going i couldnt put this book down!! My favourite character (after Rachel of course) had to be Jenks the pixy, so funny. I am off to purchase the rest of the books in the series.
I love this book. Rachel is a bounty hunting witch who decides to go freelancein the Cincinnati Hollows, thats when the trouble begins. With two new partners Ivy (a living vampire) and Jenks (a Fairy) she is determined to bring down the bad guy.
This was the first Kim Harrison book I have read and I loved it! It was funny with a plot that was easy to follow without being "fluffy". I empathised with Rachel's bad streak and thought that the variety of characters made the book that little out of the norm.
