When 17 year old Isabella Swan moves to Forks, Washington to live with her father she expects that her new life will be as dull as the town. But in spite of her awkward manner and low expectations, she finds that her new classmates are drawn to this pale, dark-haired new girl in town. But not, it seems, the Cullen family. These five adopted brothers and sisters obviously prefer their own company and will make no exception for Bella. Bella is convinced that Edward Cullen in particular hates her, but she feels a strange attraction to him, although his hostility makes her feel almost physically ill. He seems determined to push her away ? until, that is, he saves her life from an out of control car. Bella will soon discover that there is a very good reason for Edward's coldness. He, and his family, are vampires ? and he knows how dangerous it is for others to get too close.

Reviews
'The sexiest vampire tale for years arrived in Stephenie Meyer's TWILIGHT, about teenage Bella's chaste romance with a beautiful vampire boy. Their intensely erotic feelings are endangered by more predatory types. Guaranteed to suck in sulky 13+ girls for hours.' THE TIMES "Will keep readers madly flipping the pages of Meyer's tantalizing debut." Publishers Weekly

The pages almost turned themselves! Great easy to read book. As a mum I find it hard to make time to read and usually take a long time to finish a book. Couldn't put this down though and finished it within 3 days. Will appeal to teens and adults - just don't allow yourself to be put off by the vampire theme.
Don't let my 3 out of 5 drive you away from reading the series. I had never heard of these books before i bought Twilight (hard to believe - i know, the craze is incredible now that i'm actually paying attention) and i am absolutely in love.
I found twilight to be the worst of the 4 books, and almost threw it away in utter frustration while reading the first 3rd vowing to never ever buy a book before reading it or reading a review of it ever again. However i kept reading it (value for your money and all that...) and i'm glad i did. Eventually, as Meyer stopped outlining every detail of Bella's pre-edward and phenominally boring days, and as edward stopped bordering so much on multiple personality disorder - telling bella he loved her one minute preceeded by 2 pages of angst at why he should leave her - the story started to find itself.
I have never been a fan of bella, having said that as i read the book further i found that she became tolerable and throughout the series as we develop more emotional stake in the bella-edward saga she does become, if not more likeable, at least interesting in regards to her, at times, bizzaire and no doubt hormonially driven decisions.
This book did get better, in all truth i would give the first 1/3 of the book a 2 out of 5 and then the remainder a 4 out of 5. Meyer does have a very captivating writing style when she isn't trying to find different ways of describing how hot edward is. By the time i finished the book, i had ordered the next and was right onto it. Unlike some other reviews, i think Meyer's plots are fantastic, though more so in the last two books, especially so in the 4th where i believe she really slipped into her element - loved the twists and the constant drive to keep reading to relieve the suspence.
So in other words, it's well worth stomaching Twilight even if only to read the last book - having said that, Twilight is far better than alot of the mud out there these days. And this is relative to the quality of the other books in the series.
The best young adult vampire book series i have read since LJ Smith.
I loved Twilight, I read it the evening before I saw the movie as a friend lent it to me so I could get the basic idea. I'd avoided reading Twilight and the rest of the saga for a long time before because I saw how smitten my friends and classmates were with them (I thought it was ridiculous, truly.) but I found I couldn't put the book down, and I bought Twilight and New Moon as soon as I could get my hands on them. I re-read Twilight and finished New Moon, all in the same day (What else can you do in your second week of rainy holidays?) and tried to get Eclipse, but everywhere, the last two books were out of stock. A friend got in early though, and gave me Eclipse for Christmas yesterday, which I had finished by lunch time today (I'm in risk of becoming a severe recluse.). I just ordered Breaking Dawn, and I'm itching to get my hands on it.
So all in all, I became an addict overnight. Read these books, they're incredible.
I bought all four books right off the bat, and later regretted it. I usually love reading and owning books, but I'm sure I could have waited to borrow copies instead. Like others before me, I also found Bella's lack of self-esteem irritating and the constant adoration of Edward over the top. I agree with other reviewers that it wasn't necessary to forever repeat that he's gorgeous - most readers are intelligent and will get it. I was disturbed that the only apparent reason for Edward's attraction to Bella was the way she smelled. I'm sure there are other things, but lifeless characters aren't really that likeable. I also struggled with the lack of plot, and it didn't really arrive until much too late in the book. There was so much potential in these books it was maddening that they weren't better! I honestly hoped they would be fantastic, but I found the characters to be flat and 2D. I normally love romances like this, but again the plot wasn't there to move the thing along. Chop the thing in half and move the danger to earlier in the book, and you'd have a sure winner.
This was a fantastic read. As is the whole series. If you are interested in reading something that is a little different and not the normal vampire story then you really should read this! Whether you are young or old!
It is a breeze to read, and very addictive with teenage and adult angst, romance, daily woes and happiness, real life struggles and also mysterious mythical struggles, this book and series will keep you enthralled to the end.
oh my god. is all i good think throughout the entire book.
the entire story, for me was addictive, and full of amazing, gory details that made it all the better.
i have never, in my life read a book i enjoyed so much. Unlike other raters, i do not think she went on about how edward looked tooo much, i think all those details really made it into a good romance, however, im sure, like other romance lovers out there i would have liked to hear more details on there actions towards eachother...as it seems to me, like they want to spend there life together but have only had a few quick pecks!
i just ordered the next book, and literally CANT stand waiting to read it. my twilight copy arrived at 12pm yesterday, and i actually, only put it down for a 30minute break then finished the book at 3.30 in the morning!! its THAT addictive.
now that i've read that book, i don't think any other book will ever compare. it was 100% amazing.
i'm a truely satisfied customer1
Fantastic book, aimed at teenagers but in my mid 20's I still really enjoyed it. One of those books that makes you want to keep reading long after you should be asleep. Been compared to the Harry Potter novels but to me seems more grown up.
short and sweet! i havnt found a book in such a long time that could drag me in and hold on to me as this 1 has! ive already pre ordered all of the following books! i litterally laughed out loud, i cried ( which i never do!) and i couldnt even leave the house for newyears because i was so captivated by this book! it was impossible to put down!
I have to say, I wasn't all that taken by this book as I thought. In saying that though, it has left an impression nonetheless and I've now found myself reading the sequel at book shops when I get the chance. I might eventually buy it...
However, the story is well written and I think it does reflect a young girl's mind very well. Oh how I miss the angst. Not. :)
I do have a bit of pet peeve with how some of the characters are not as developed as Bella's and Edward's. Yes, I'm aware that the story is about them, and yes, they are quite interesting to read about, however I think the story would have more depth with the aid of more detailed character descriptions and interactions with BeEd (Oh er...IsaEd?). I particularly wanted to 'see' more of Rosalie and Emmett.
If you want to get the full picture before you see the movie then get this book.
Bella and Edward when they first met, adventure and some great parts. They paint a picture and draw you in, I found it hard to put this one down. Once you are into the book, the writer takes you away into her world as it would be when ou first fell in love. But this has a twist.
great book one of my favs. get this and then get the second also the third book.
