This opens with Sookies cousin Hadley already dead & Sookie already having attended the trial for the murderer. At first felt had missed a major chunk of the story as this part of the back story was rushed thru. But story evens out then moves at a steady pace for which these novels are known for. While cleaning out her cousins apartment she befriends the witch landlord whose magic proves very helpful to discover why there was a newly turned vampire hidden in the closet. But of cause just because Sookies in another town does not mean trouble has not followed her & her life is in danger. But thankfully Quinn is there to help even Eric. But when Sookie seems to have escaped one disaster another follows & is not just to her life but also her heart.

The best thing about Charlaine Harris would have to be her quickly paced stories. I've read the Sookie novels right from Dead Until Dark and Definitely Dead was as thoroughly enjoyable as the previous five books.
Harris can be relied upon to quickly start her books, which is something I always appreciate. Once the background is set with a few references to earlier stories, Sookie is off to New Orleans to clean out her doubly-dead cousin's apartment. Of course it sounds simpler than it is and Sookie soon finds herself in more than enough trouble, both from the Weres who are out to get her and the intrigue of the vampire court.
There are a few twists thrown in to help move the entire series forward, however Definitely Dead is an enjoyable story on it's own too. Would recommend to any Sookie Stackhouse fan, or a new reader alike.

My first meeting with the wonderful Sookie Stackhouse character and I can't wait to read more.

Charlaine Harris paints a fantastical, but well thought out world in which vampires are 'out of the coffin' and co-habiting the twenty first century alongside the living. Sookie makes a fun and entertaining heroine. In this tale she solves the mystery of her cousin Hadley's death (since Hadley was a vampire this was her second death), and falls for Quinn, a sexy shape-shifter. A great escapist romp.
