In this new satirical novel from Discworld, the jolly Hogfather, who brings presents to all the children on Hogswatchnight, mysteriously disappears. The grim specter of Death must take his place, leaving the annual celebration in jeopardy.
From The Publisher:
Who would want to harm Discworld's most beloved icon? Very few things are held sacred in this twisted, corrupt, heartless -- and oddly familiar -- universe, but the Hogfather is one of them. Yet here it is, Hogswatchnight, that most joyous and acquisitive of times, and the jolly old, red-suited gift-giver has vanished without a trace. And there's something shady going on involving an uncommonly psychotic member of the Assassins' Guild and certain representatives of Ankh-Morpork's rather extensive criminal element. Suddenly Discworld's entire myth system is unraveling at an alarming rate. Drastic measures must be taken, which is why Death himself is taking up the reins of the fat man's vacated sleigh . . . which, in turn, has Death's level-headed granddaughter, Susan, racing to unravel the nasty, humbuggian mess before the holiday season goes straight to hell and takes everyone along with it.

Fantastic, what this book lacks is NOTHING.... we have the auditors, Death, Susan, the Hogfather, the tooth fairy, bogeymen, a poker, small children, Albert drinking sherry, pigs, Teatime the assassin, as well as other crooks. When the Auditors decide that they want the Hogfather eliminated, Death takes over the reigns to fill in the festive shoes of the Jolly Hogfather (and things that rhyme with Olly).... Susan gets onto the task of finding the Hogfather, tooth fairy and minding the Oh God, the god of Hangovers....
Santa's Discworld counterpart, the Hogfather has gone mysteriously missing. Someone has to step up to take his place for a while, and who better than Death himself, who must ensure that people must still believe in the Hogfather on Hogswatch otherwise the world is going to end. I love Death in all of his novels, and this one is no exception. The thought of Albert in elves ears is kinda amusing too, I must say!
A lovely Hogswatch story...in which the Hogfather, regrettably is dead, causing Death to temporarily take the role. Cue Ho! Ho! Ho! and Susan Sto Helit up to her neck in trouble as she tries to discover just how bad the thread of reality is, how completely crackers Grandpa Death is, and whether she needs to begin searching for a nursing home...
Hogfather visits all the children once a year on Hogfather night delivering goodies in his sleigh pulled by 8 hogs. But this year Hogfather and his jolly red suit have disappeared and Discworld could face chaos until DEATH steps in a replacement.....
Featuring Death, Squeak - death of rats (and my favourite character), Susan and Binky and even the Boogyman - this is one night where anything could happen.
One of the best Pratchett's ever and first one to be optioned as a major motion picture. Death is always a favorite and his personification in this novel is nothing short of perfect.
Susan's character is also fantastic but for my money you can't get any better than the death of rats. How can you go wrong with a funny expressive character thats entire dialouge is: "SQUEAK".
I love the novels that include Deaths so I had to read this and it is rolling on the floor funny. Death is running around being father christmas only he is known as hogfather instead and there is a god of hangovers who is very confused because he didn't exist a moment ago and is terribly ill, head like stuffed wool except he wasn't drunk well he's never drunken anything. great and very funny.
