– Customer review on 30/09/2006 Garion and the rest of his party make a trip to Mal Zeth, the capital city of Mallorea in order to fulfil a certain part of the prophecy, as is necessary, and they finally get to meet the emperor Zakath in person, who, though he has been an opponent of the West before, is actually quite a pleasant and urbane man; however because of his loyalties elsewhere, he refuses to let Garion and the others leave to complete their quest. Meanwhile, reports are surfacing of the Grolims summoning demons – a phenomenon that may destroy humanity if it is left unchecked.
Another volume of the Malloreon which delivers more of the same; the plot moves rather slowly and while there is an amazing amount of banter and sardonic bickering, there is little in the way of character development. However, this book does get extra points for introducing Zakath, who is quite an interesting character, and while not exactly authentically human, he also does not fit into the caricature mold that some other characters do. If you’ve made it this far, you’ll want to read on, however this book is only moderately enjoyable.
