In Bruce Robertson, Welsh has created one of the most corrupt, misanthropic characters in contemporary fiction , and has written a dark, disturbing and very funny novel about sleaze, power, and the abuse of everything. At last, a novel that lives up to its name.
The first Irvine Welsh book I ever read, and thoughroughly enjoyed it. Different to his other books as it focus's on one single main character, a foul, crooked cop. He has a disgusting skin condition, and no morals what so ever. This book highlights to the curruption that can occur in any line of work anywhere in the world, and though this is an extreeme case, it makes you think twice about the powers that be.
Read Trainspotting, instead. Writing in accent is still funny though. However, in the case of this book it definitely starts to drag, or even pall, and it isn't that interesting to start with. For hardcore Welsh fans only, methinks. Too much of a good thing, in this case, really. For definite super keen fans of the author only.
