Every weekend, in basements and parking lots across the country, young men with good white-collar jobs and absent fathers take off their shoes and shirts and fight each other barehanded for as long as they have to. Then they go back to those jobs with blackened eyes and loosened teeth and the sense that they can handle anything. Fight Club is the invention of Tyler Durden, projectionist, waiter and dark, anarchic genius. And it's only the beginning of his plans for revenge on a world where cancer support groups have the corner on human warmth.

Chuck Palahniuk is nothing short of genius when it comes to writing. Original, entertaining and thought provoking Chuck Palahniuk delivers you effortlessly into the world of his characters.
Pretty much everyone is at least familiar with the movie and the premise behind it all, so no need for a synopsis. Just sheer praise for a highly talented and splendid author.
If you are one of the few who have yet to see the movie do yourself the favour and read the book first.
As previously mentioned a certain contender for a modern classic.
Unfortunately, I watched the movie first. I was disappointed with the book, but mostly because I was constantly comparing it to the movie. I actually preferred the book ending to the movie ending, though. People say that Fight Club is Palahniuk’s best book, but I much preferred Survivor. Overall, Fight Club is very clever and original.
I almost wish I had read the book before seeing the movie. The movie remains one of my all-time favourites, and I thought the book lacked the same punch. I was a little disappointed with it after having such high expectations given that usually when a movie is based on a book the book rates so much higher that its not even worthy of a comparison. I thought this book was one of the few exceptions to that rule.
yeah a book that lingers in your memory for quite awhile definately the most universally popular book made by palahniuk so far. a shame that the movie wasnt as good as the book and kind of a bummer that most people read the book after the movie which is always a bummer. anyways a great book which everyone should read if they havent already.
I read the book after seeing the movie many times, so I ended up comparing the book to the movie, rather than judging it on its own merits. While the book is well written and structured, I felt that the ending of the book was not great and am glad it was changed in the film version (although if I had read the book before seeing the movie I may have felt differently).
This is a short novel but incredible. If you have seen the movie, well, the reason the movie is so great is that it stayed so true to the original novel. In fact, even a decent portion of the dialogue remains intact in the translation. The twist, if you don't know it, is brilliant and this book is deserving of the title "modern classic". The writing style is quite sharp and punchy. The life of the two main characters is juxtaposed and the reader is constantly intrigued and trying to figure out exactly what the heck is going on. Absolutely 5 stars.
Chuck Palahniuks plot driven style is refreshing, and Fight Club represents both a new direction in modern literature, and the new changing face of masculinity in the 21st Century. Thought provoking, intriguing and brutal, Fight Club takes us on a journey of self discovery through self destruction. A must read for all men!
