– Customer review on 26/09/2007 In this collection, Carter rewrites well known fairytales such as ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ and ‘Bluebeard’. Largely concerned with themes of sexuality and sadomasochism, these ‘tales’ might offend some readers. Carter often reiterates the male dominance over females that was exhibited in the original, or previous versions, of the tales. As a result, many of Carter’s tales may leave a bitter taste for female readers. The title story ‘The Bloody Chamber’ is well written and entertaining, although the theme of sadomasochism, once again, dominates.
