Now this is just ridiculous. This book is missing all of the characteristics that make Asterix books the world-wide phenomenon that they are today. Where's the witticisms, puns and cleaver humour? What happened to the more-or-less beleivable plot-lines (discounting the Magic Potion etc.) and events that you could see happening to people that you know? Aliens? Get real. A dissappointing addition.
The latest book from the Asterix and Obelix series is frankly quite very poor actually. The aliens were really quite stupid, and this book just does not have the quality and calibre of many of the others in this series. Good for hard-core Aterix and Oelix fans but for most of the rest of us not really worth bothering really.
“Asterix And Falling Sky” is Okay I guess. It is just not nearly as good as the others. It is too outlandish, with aliens and not much of a plot. Also the humour has dropped considerably. I used to laugh until my sides ached when I read a new Asterix, but when I read this one I didn’t even chuckle.
Sad as it is, I have to agree with the review below. This is just...not good. Aliens? Disney characters? A tribute is all very well, but this is just...well, NOT GOOD!! I picked up this book eagerly from the library shelf, thrilled to see a new Asterix book out. Unfortunately, it was very disappointing. True Asterix fans will be depressed by the way our Hero has changed in Uderzo's hands; where has the style gone? the panache? I appreciate that he is trying his best, but Asterix just aint the same anymore.
This is the 33rd adventure, published in French and English in 2005.
With Rene Goscinny deceased, Albert Uderzo began writing as well as illustrating the series. Not as good as the first 24, sales show that they are no less popular. However, this one is just flippin' silly...
Two groups of aliens fight over the village in order to try and get the magic potion. The laiens look like Disney characters or superheroes (Uderzo did this as a tribute to Disney, who inspired him to be an artist). This one is not liked by fans. It's OK for kids, but geez, it sucks...
