– Customer review on 24/01/2008 A gripping novel about the tumultuous friendship - and eventual falling out - between Charles Darwin and Robert Fitzroy. Thompson impressively recreates 19th century life, particularly life during the Beagle's famous voyage, and draws the characters of Darwin and Fitzroy very vividly - indeed the reader cannot help but be pulled into their friendship, which makes its dissolution all the more moving. Darwin's adventures are well recorded as is his reaction to them. A very impressive book.
