– Customer review on 12/04/2006 Richard Sharpe and the French Invasion of Galicia, January 1809 - the ninth Sharpe novel published, and the sixth on chronological order.
The first eight novels published covered Sharpe's adventures from capturing a French eagle at Talavera in 1809 through to his defence of a French fort under siege in 1814. This is a 'prequel', taking us back to Sharpe's first days with the 95th rifles in the Peninsular war. Sharpe, newly promoted, is distrusted by those under his command- he is from the ranks like them, and they don't like him; Sharpe, insecure in his ability to lead, doesn't like them in return - especially the big Irish sergeant, Harper.
Throw in a Spanish major with some secrets, and you've got a great Sharpe adventure.
