– Customer review on 10/08/2007 The First Man in Rome is perhaps properly classified as a historical political drama, but it's so much more than that. Set in Ancient Rome (around 100BC), it follows the story of Gaius Marius and Sulla as they vie to become consul of Rome. Not only does this book show the richly detailed history of the people of the time, it writes about them as *people*, bringing the characters alive on the page.
Highly recommended for history fans!
