From The Publisher:
For Tanus, the fair-haired young lion of a warrior, the gods have decreed that he will lead Egypt's army in a bold attempt to reunite the Kingdom's shared halves. But Tanus will have to defy the same gods to attain the reward they have forbidden him, an object more prized than battle's glory: possession of the Lady Lostris, a rare beauty with skin the color of oiled ceder--destined for the adoration of a nation, and the love of one extraordinary man. International bestselling author Wilbur Smith, creator of two dozen highly acclaimed novels, draws readers into a magnificent, richly imagined saga. Exploding with all the drama, mystery and rage of a bygone time, "River God" is a masterpiece from a storyteller at the height of his powers.

I have just finished RiverGod and although I must say I absolutely adore Wilbur Smith's writing style (The depth of his characters and landscape). Taita is one of the best characters I have ever had the pleasure of journeying with. Slave though he may be he is certainly rich in many other forms. Anyone who is interested in Ancient Egypt really should read this and the other 2 Egyptian books by Mr Smith (Warlock & Seventh Scroll). The culture is absolutely amazing and in a lot of ways it reminds me of Jean Auels books in the way that new things are discovered and used. The most amazing thing to me was when I reached the end of the book and found that it was based on an archeological find (10 Scrolls). Fiction is definitely my forte however finding even the smallest truth in such an amazing story just makes it even better.
This is my favourite book ever and I can re read it again and again. That it is based on a story that was found in a tomb is amazing to me. Highly Recommend this book
I couldn’t put this book down; it was an epic set in Egyptian history. I fell in love with the characters; each person had a personality of their own that was explored in depth. The main characters will become like a new family to you, I was sad to see the book end. The story is very well written, with lots of detail, intrigue, mystery, danger and adventure, it is delightfully humorous for a story that included death, war, betrayal and suffering. The story was well rounded and brings to light the strength of love and loyalty in a tough new world. Through the eyes of Taita you will come to love the life and times of his beloved Egypt as well as the journey’s through love, loss and life taken by his heroic and adored friends. If you enjoy action and adventure and are fascinated with the mysteries of ancient Egypt you will find this story both fun and educational. I love the blockbuster historical movies on the big screen and this was their match.
This book is so good that its almost out of character for Wilbur Smith (not that his books aren;t good fun to read but this was superb). I have read and re read this and get something new from each new reading. i would be hard put to say what the best aspect of the book is as it is all so good.
