1809. Sharpe finds himself attached to a new company called the South Essex under the command of the bullying Henry Simmerson. Sharpe must must whip the green recruits into fighting order, and ahead, the Battle of Talavera looms...
This is the first of the Sharpe novels (in order of publication) and considered by many to be the best. Rich in historical detail, filled with huge battle scenes, and populated with great characters - a real classic in historical fiction.
