"STARTLING . . . FIENDISH . . . MEMNOCH'S TALE IS COMPELLING." --New York Daily News "Like Interview with the Vampire, Memnoch has a half-maddened, fever-pitch intensity. . . . Narrated by Rice's most cherished character, the vampire Lestat, Memnoch tells a tale as old as Scripture's legends and as modern as today's religious strife." --Rolling Stone "SENSUAL . . . BOLD, FAST-PACED." --USA Today "Rice has penned an ambitious close to this long-running series. . . . Fans will no doubt devour this." --The Washington Post Book World "MEMNOCH THE DEVIL OFFERS PASSAGES OF POETIC BRILLIANCE." --Playboy "[MEMNOCH] is one of Rice's most intriguing and sympathetic characters to date. . . . Rice ups the ante, taking Lestat where few writers have ventured: into heaven and hell itself. She carries it off in top form." --The Seattle Times

Yep, this is bad. After Lestat kills a gangster, he ends up meeting a ghost.
That is not all though, as he meets a Devil, and we get a long, tedious explanation and pontification on the whole relgion Heaven and Hell thing, and all may just be David Talbot had mentioned to Lestat before.
Travelling to hell, Lestat gets hurt, and goes crazy, and Maharet has to help him.
If you are a fan of the first three books, and that is the sort of thing you want, and don't want to read religious discussion through the mouthpiece of vampire characters, please avoid this book.
The fifth instalment in the Vampire Chronicles, this one follows Lestat as he's stalking his latest meal; a cocaine dealer and art smuggler, but he finds himself increasingly enamoured by the man's young TV evangelist daughter. Meanwhile, it seems that someone else is stalking Lestat himself, and it turns out to be Memnoch, the Devil, who takes Lestat on a journey through hell, heaven and the past, to make him understand the true nature of God.
This one, while still well-written and showing an impressive scope of ideas, continues the downward spiral that the Vampire Chronicles, with the plot and characterisation in particular being unsound. Even more distressing was the feeling that the controversial philosophies and religious theories were tacked onto the characters, Lestat in particular, making the book a mere vehicle for Ms. Rice's own philosophies, and a blatant one at that. Read if you are a firm Vampire Chronicles fan, but if you were disappointed with Tales of the Body Thief, this one won't win you back.
This is a wicked book aye, lestat is being haunted by a devil who takes him to the depths of hell and to the gates of heaven , lestat is tormented by all that he sees in both these places. A great read if you like vampires or anything supernatural
this is the 5th book in the vampire chronicles and in this story lestat is filled with fear when the ghost of one of his victims starts to haunt him. then memnoch the devil comes to lestat and takes him through hell and into heaven. an experience that leaves lestat in a trance or coma. this is by far one of the most frightening and enthralling books in the series.
