Kelley Armstrong's debut novel--which does "much the same for werewolves as Anne Rice did for vampires" ("Rocky Mountain News")--is now available in mass market paperback. Thirty-year-old Elena Michaels comes to terms with her feral appetites as the world's only living female werewolf.

This is where it all begins. You meet the love of your life in University, he's gorgeous, blond, built and intelligent, wealthy, employed, "and" he wants you..., so much so, he wants to marry and takes you home to meet his father. Sounds like a fairy tale doesnt it?
But far from it. Your Fiance' turns out to be a 'Were Wolf" and his father is the pack leader. Best of all, that pretty dog you were petting bites you and it turns out - its your future hubby and no you havent got rabbies..... your turning.
"Bitten" by Kelley Armstrong is the first novel in her Women Of The Otherworld" series, and also a very impressive writing debut.
While I'm not usually a fan of books written from the "first person" perspective, the author has created a lively and independant lead character and it is very easy to empathise with her situation - no matter how far-fetched it may appear!
Elena Michaels is the worlds only female werewolf and is torn between her desire to lead a normal life, and her obligations to the Pack, who are her family in every sense.
Called back to the Pack's stronghold, she discovers they are all in very real danger. She is asked to put aside the life she's fought for so hard to maintain, and pick up the threads of the old life she thought she no longer wanted.
Kelley Armstrong's book is very well written, and absolutely absorbing - and I'd highly recommend it to any supernatural fantasy fan, and anyone looking for a great story with a strong female lead character.
Enjoy!
Bitten in the first title in Kelley Armstrong’s ‘Women of the Otherworld’ series. It is a must have for any urban fantasy enthusiast.
Elena Michaels is funny, confident, intelligent…and the only known female werewolf in the world. Bitten starts off with her getting a call from her Alpha. A recent series of gruesome deaths near the Pack’s territory have been attributed to vicious dogs. But it’s only a matter of time before people start looking towards other possible explanations…
Bitten is a very enjoyable story set in Toronto and New York State. There’s a bit of everything in it, fantasy, mystery, action and romance. Elena is easy to identify with and the way she works through her issues of being part human and part wolf is realistic and engaging. The narration just flows so smoothly!
Following Bitten, in order are, Stolen, Dime Store Magic, Industrial Magic, Haunted and Broken.
Now i must say i am a sucker for werewolf novels and this is an enjoyable one. Meet the onlyknown female werewolf and she has men fighting over her - not that big a surprise. She is torn between life in the pack and living as an independant human. Theres love, emotion, action, while not exactly deep in content Bitten is a good read.
This is the first book I have read from Kelley Armstrong, I am not a fan of the first person narrative but the book moved quickly with a fast moving plot and the obligatory background information of the characters and current situation of being the only female werewolf.
Despite other reviews I did not find Elena a believable character and certainly did not feel much empathy towards her plight, despite this it was an average read and should appeal to fans of this genre.
kelley armstrong is a pianear in the supernatural. her books bring out life in each of her characters (which most women can relate to) and her storylines will always keep you reading. Bitten is no exception to this statement. i recomend this book to anyone who loves a good werewolf read and lots of action packed sequences while the others fight to survive.
five out of five for an excellent read.
Werewolves jockey for local power, no horses involved.
A woman gets involved in having the whole lycanthropy thing, and throws a bird among the bird dogs. She has to fit in, deal with those that she gives the horn, old human boyfriends, and all that sort of thing. A rather low-key focus at times makes this all a bit on the tedious side.
This first book in the women of the otherworld introduces you to the complex characters of Elena and Clay, Theirs is a sexy love story that will leave you begging for more. You are introduced to a world seldom seen (considering the popular demand of vampire books.) that of werewolves and their pack lives . The Author writes a compeling novel that you do not want to put down. I loved this book and have read it more than twice. A higly recommended read.
This was a great introduction to those who haven't read many werewolf novels. It wasn't quite what I though it would be but was well written and the plot was easy to follow. Elena was a great character I thought had issues that weren't that hard to relate too - towards the end I was completely immersed in the book - I look forward to reading the next...
