Everyone should read this book, it is written with touching warmth from the heart of a child, perhaps the only perspective from which the horrors of society can be seen untainted.
In a gentle way Harper Lee pushes you and pulls you until you face the ending with nothing to veil it.
A classic to be read and treasured, and then read again.

This novel deserves its reputation as a classic. Seeing the world of the old south US throught the eyes of a child brilliantly shows up its unwritten rules, racism and hypocrisies. Scout is a likeable protagonist and we join her in learning about justice, tolerance, racism and, above all, the importance of always standing up for what is right, even when you're in a losing battle! If you didn't read this in school - pick up a copy. If you did - read it again!

This story has been killed by the school system making it part of the studies, yet this is a must read for all. Dealing with relevant issues of today, though written years before my time. I recommend this be given to your children, nieces, nephews, grandchildren etc. before the school systems have a chance to rip it apart.

i just loved this book, i hate reading but i made an effort with book and i am so glad i did, i loved it so much i got the movie out! but this is a fantastic book, its really sad but also really moving, i think everyone must have read this book atleast once in their life, if not you must!

Harper Lee's 'To Kill A Mockingbird' is considered a classic, and not without justification. Though I wouldn't personally call it one of my favourite books, to think of what the society this book was originally released into was like, and what effect this book had, that in itself is reason to read it. However, when I read it, I did so for school. Among all the other students' groans, I found a rather enjoyable book.

Though it took awhile to get into, the story DOES make you want to keep reading, not in any suspenceful kind of way, but just because the book feels so... friendly. Looking through the eyes of young Scout, everything has a nice feel about it. However, I can't say the story is what did this for me. It was Atticus. His character is just so great and he is a real source of inspiration to me. For it's place in history, it's morals and it's decent story and godly Atticus, I recommend this book to everyone.

Set in such a different time to the one I enjoyed when I first read this at the age of 14 - it blew my mind with the attitudes surrounding black people in Southern America. I could hardly believe that this once happened! Scout's story and viewpoint add an innocence to the tale - mimicing the innocence I had when I read it for the first time. I believe that is why it has stuck out so much in my memory.

I really enjoyed this book. Scout makes a charming protagonist, she is both innocent and mischievous, and her childlike narration gives the novel a surreal quality. Lee subtly conveys the graver themes of the novel, delicately moralising without being too puritanical. Lee, with careful simplicity, encourages the reader to be intelligent, thoughtful and sympathetic in their judgments. Despite the seriousness of the plot, the novel remains very optimistic in tone. I would especially recommend this book for older children and young teenagers.

This book is inspirational, and a book you will want to read over and over. Scout and Jem are growing up in Mississipi, with their father Atticus and housekeeper Cal. Their father is asked to defend Tom Robinson, a negro accused of raping a white women. The evidence is clear - Tom Robinson is innocent - but can Atticus convince a small town of this without endangering his childrens life.

the first time i read this book i did not like it, but the second time i read it i fell instantly in love with it. it is useful for the reader to take note that it takes a long time for the 'action' (in other words, the court drama) to start, almost two thirds of the way in, but it is nevertheless an excellent read

I studied “To Kill a Mocking Bird” at school and was glad I was introduced to the book. It is a morbid story showing the effect of racism on a community. Written a while ago it is still relevant to the issues today and should be read by everyone. This book is definitely a classic.
