Harry Potter is an ordinary boy who lives in a cupboard under the stairs at his Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon's house, which he thinks is normal for someone like him, whose parents were killed in a 'car crash'. He is bullied by his aunt and uncle, and his fat, spoilt cousin Dudley, and lives a very unremarkable life with only the odd hiccup (like his hair growing back overnight!) giving him much to think about. That is until an owl turns up with a letter addressed to Harry and all hell breaks loose! He is rescued by a world where nothing is as it seems and magic lessons are the order of the day. Read and find out how Harry discovers his true heritage at Hogwarts School of Wizardry and Witchcraft, the reason behind his parents' mysterious deaths, who is out to kill him, and how he uncovers the most amazing secret of all time, the fabled Philosopher's Stone! All this and Muggles too. Now, what are they?

the boy harry potter, a mere baby (ok, of age eleven years old) is much more likable in this first book Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone then in later books (to be specific, from book five) mainly because he is very much a helpless victim here. i highly recommend all people to read this
I dont think that there is any human being who doesnt like harry potter!! this series of books is absolutely amazing and they have made jk rowling a billionaire! so obviously they are good! this book esepecially has it is quite dark but also has a little bit of humour at the same time. i would definatley reccomend this book to you! the first book is such a classic
its so hard to choose a favourite in the harry potter series so i would recommend you to read them all. all worth the read and so hard to put down. The price is nothing compared to the enjoyment that you will get from reading this book. You definately want to purchase this book as you will be missing out if you dont. great edition of the book.
Harry Potter and the Philosopher stone is a wonderful book. This is what started off the world famous harry potter series. It is a terrifec read the characters have depth and soul. The style of writing is spectacular and I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Jk Rowling proves herself as an unbelievable author. Do read!
Everyone knows Harry Potter, and if you still haven't delved into the world of wizards and muggles, then begin at the beginning with book one. I actually prefer the early books and this one (the first) is almost the best. Telling the early days of Harry Potter, his mysterious background and the first term at Hogwarts means this has plenty to keep the reader entertained.
wow, right from the start this book will have you fully hooked. harry is one of the most likeable characters out there, and his plight as a mistreated orphan will really tug at your heartstrings! he is then whisked into a whole new world where magic is a way of life, and attends the coolest school ever, hogwarts! a real must read for adults and kids alike!!
opening the cover of a harry potter book is like literally stepping into another world. joanne rowling is the master of imagination, and it is sometimes hard to believe my ordinary broomstick won't actuallly lift off the ground when i get on it. there's a reason this is the most celebrated series of this century, read it
the first title in the all famout harry potter series, harry potter and the philosophers stone kick starts one of the most famous series of books, and i can see why, the story is fantastic and the idea of a boy wizard is priceless, you must go out and buy this book, it is just that good.
Harry Potter is a wicked concept and this book gets everyone hooked into the series. Its a good read for anyone old or young and will have you reading hungrily until you finish. But done worry cause you still have more books in the series to catch up on. Yay for harry potter.
The initial Harry Potter book wasn't that great, although the 2nd and 3rd books were a significant improvement. It was okay, but I'm not sure how it sparked a worldwide frenzy.
The book is very reminiscent of an Enid Blyton book. Harry's friends are very stereotyped, and all the adults are depicted as insane non-human aliens who are irrational and disconnected with reality. The book wasn't that exciting either. Thankfully, somebody made a bigger effort with the later books.
