– Customer review on 28/04/2007 Set in a Nigerian village on the eve of European colonisation, ‘Things Fall Apart’ gives an intricate and insightful account of native Nigerian culture. Achebe criticises the European colonisation of Africa yet also takes a universal approach when exploring human nature, an exploration reinforced by the portrayal of the flawed protagonist, Okonkwo, who risks losing everything because of his fierce and potentially dangerous pride. Although short and simply written, ‘Things Fall Apart’ is a poignant tragedy.
