A magnificent epic of love, war and Russia from the international bestselling author of TULLY and ROAD TO PARADISE Leningrad 1941: the white nights of summer illuminate a city of fallen grandeur whose palaces and avenues speak of a different age, when Leningrad was known as St Petersburg. Two sisters, Tatiana and Dasha, share the same bed, living in one room with their brother and parents. The routine of their hard impoverished life is shattered on 22 June 1941 when Hitler invades Russia. For the Metanov family, for Leningrad and particularly for Tatiana, life will never be the same again. On that fateful day, Tatiana meets a brash young man named Alexander. The family suffers as Hitler's army advances on Leningrad, and the Russian winter closes in. With bombs falling and the city under siege, Tatiana and Alexander are drawn inexorably to each other, but theirs is a love that could tear Tatiana's family apart, and at its heart lies a secret that could mean death to anyone who hears it.Confronted on the one hand by Hitler's vast war machine, and on the other by a Soviet system determined to crush the human spirit, Tatiana and Alexander are pitted against the very tide of history, at a turning point in the century that made the modern world.

Praise for Paullina Simons Tully 'Pick up this book and prepare to have your emotions wrung so completely you'll be sobbing your heart out one minute and laughing through your tears the next! Read it and weep -- literally' Company Tatiana and Alexander 'This has everything a romance glutton could wish for: a bold, talented and dashing hero, a heart-stopping love affair ! It also has -- thank goodness -- a welcome sense of humour and discernable characters rather than ciphers.' Victoria Moore, Daily Mail The Bronze Horseman 'Pulling off the passionate love story embedded in a truly epic narrative is a difficult thing to do. Margaret Mitchell's Gone With the Wind remains the blueprint for the genre, while Tolstoy's War and Peace carries off the literary honours ! it's quickly apparent that the Russian-born author Paullina Simons has the measure of this kind of epic romantic saga ! She is able to make some powerful statements about the durability of the human spirit, but never at the expense of descriptive passages refulgent with power and beauty' Barry Forshaw, amazon

INCREDIBLE! Paullina Simons manages to enchant her readers with a combination of intriguing political history, human suffering, wartime devastation and most importantly, a heartwrenching love story.
The characters will stay in your heart long after you've closed the book. If you have any interest in WW2 history, love a bit of romance or need a story that first makes you cry, then lifts you up with hope, this book is for you.
Tatiana and Alexander give Romeo and Juliet a run for their money as far as I'm concerned!
This is one of the best books I have read in a LONG time. It made me laugh and cry and in all honesty I was unable to put it down. The characters are fabulous, and I HAD to buy the next three books in the series to find out what happens. I have read a lot of Paullina Simons' books and she is one of the most brilliant writers I have had the pleasure of reading.
I read this book a couple of years ago, and it remains my favourite book of all time. I have never written a review for anything, but i feel so compelled to write one for this book. Its a book that stays with you always, and this isn't just my opinion, everyone who i speak to that reads it feels the same.
No matter how many times i read this book i am so drawn into the intensity of the book and its characters.
An absolute must read, a book that will i think always remain my favourite, the one i compare every book ive read since to, but they never seem to match up.
Also being a modern history buff, i found the story telling about WWII extremely fascinating.
A beautiful story written by a truly talented author!
This book, and the whole Tatiana and Alexander series are some of my favourite books of all time. This is a very emotional and powerful story, and you will find yourself, laughing, crying, and suffering with thecharacters at many points in the story. I could not put this book down, and just had to find out what happened next. Well worth reading once, twice, five times, and you will have to read the whole series.
What a beautiful book!!!! Alexander is absolutely amazing and the love story weaved between him and Tatiana is heart-wrenching. This love story is easily as emotionally involving as Jamie and Claire (Outlander) or Henry and Claire (Time Traveller's Wife). The romance component of this novel allowed the characters to grow and the author to show them at both their best and worst. Passionate and gutsy, the characters in this novel do not disappoint.
I haven't read a book set in the Soviet Union in WWII before so that was a large draw card for me. The war and historical elements were a massive part of the book without being overbearing or losing their human feel. I found myself with damp eyes more than once during the starvation of Leningrad and came away from the book with a greater understanding of a time and place that previously held no interest to me.
The only criticism I could possibly offer The Bronze Horseman is that at times it does tend to go on too much and you may find yourself skimming. I did just feel like that was purely a by-product of the author being so completely engrossed in her characters though. It's a fair trade-off.
Everybody should read this book. One of the best books i have read in years but be careful as you will not be able to put it down. This book was a fabulous read as well as a great history lesson on Russia during WW2. Impossible not to fall in love with the characters. I highly reccomend this.
By far the BEST book I have ever read! Its such a beautiful love story and once I started reading it I just couldnt stop. After I had finished the book it took some time to shake the feeling that Tania and Shura were not apart of my life! Highly recommend it and the following books. I just LOVE LOVE LOVED it!!
This book was amazing. I could read it over and over again. It is one of the most beautiful love stories. I read it in 2 days but had to shield the pages from hubby in bed as a little explicit. But excellent. i recommend it to anyone wanting a brilliant read and to esacape into another world.
My all time favourite novel. One that you can read over and over, and never be tired of it. The tale of Alexander and Tatiana will go down in history as one of the greatest love stories ever.
What an amazing love story - i agree witha many other reviewers, there has to be a movie made of this trilogy. tatiana and alexander become part of you and you will find yourself trapped in the drama, love, war, betrayal, secrets and hunger. A captivating read - a real page turner and i cannot say enough that you must read this novel and its following novels...
