– Customer review on 29/04/2008 Jane Austen's last and posthumously-published novel, Persuasion, is a moving tale about what happens when a girl doesn't get her happy ending. The heroine, Anne, is now approaching the realm of spinsterhood after taking the prudent advice of (ie, was persuaded by) a relative against marrying the man she loved. He has returned, years later, a Captain with enough wealth to make him a worthy husband. The question is, has he forgiven her for breaking his heart - or is he more taken with the younger women who compete for his attentions?
Persuasion is a carefully crafted novel with a slightly older heroine than Austen's other works. This works in Anne's favour: she has some more worldly experience, more regrets, and thus more to hope for.
York Notes Advanced are great if you're in your last years of highschool or first year of university. They carefully break down the narrative, characters, themes etc for easy digestion. At university level you still require more careful and critical reading, and to get those top grades, you need more than just York Notes. That said, they're a great starting point.
