– Customer review on 25/09/2007 This is a interesting and highly intelligent story about the time in Picard's life between losing the Stargazer and commanding the Enterprise. During this time, he stands trial and faces possible court martial for the loss of the Stargazer and faces the ultimate betrayal from a lover during the proceedings. Seeking solace away from Starfleet, Picard pursues his passion for archaeology but inadvertently goes on a mission that uncovers the answers to one of the greatest mysteries in the galaxy but also risks exposing it to a very ancient danger.
The Buried Age is highly complex in scientific and historical language so be prepared to assimilate some cutting edge terminology from both disciplines. The drama surrounding Picard is succinct and insightful but not truly compelling. You can see what shapes the aloof, distinguished scholar and disciplinarian commander but it was hard to sympathize with these things. The plot was just astounding and the story solid. The number of cameos is an instant fan like too. Scintillating and engaging, I found it thoroughly enjoyable.
