In this book, Jim Qwilleran and his two siamese cats, Koko and YumYum, take up residence in the Penthouse on the 14th (actually the 13th) floor of the classic Casablanca apartment building.
Qwill's friends back in Pickax are worried that he is in dangerous territory in the city and before long it seems they are right as Qwill hears of more and more murders, shootings and robberies. But Qwill is not to be deterred : he's on a mission, to save the Casablanca from developers who want to demolish it for a new skyscraper.
Qwill also snoops into the death of the previous occupant of his apartment, once again proving that Qwill + Cats = unbeatable team.
