Dexter Morgan isn't exactly the kind of man you'd bring home to your mum. At heart, he's the perfect gentleman: he has a shy girlfriend, and seems to lead a quiet, normal life bordering on the mundane. Despite the fact that he can't stand the sight of blood, he works as a blood-spatter analyst for the Miami police. But Dexter also has a secret hobby: he is an accomplished serial killer. So far, he's killed 36 people and has never been caught because he knows exactly how to hide the evidence. And while that may lead some people to assume he's not such a nice guy, he tempers his insatiable hunger for brutality by only killing the bad guys. However, Dexter's well-organised life is suddenly disrupted when a second, much more visible serial killer appears in Miami. Intrigued that the other killer favours a style similar to his own, Dexter soon realises that the mysterious new arrival is not simply invading his turf but offering him a direct invitation to 'come out and play'...

Lindsay has created one of the most engaging and original narrators of recent years. 'A virtuoso debut by a new young American author, this is a compulsive trip through territory rendered familiar by the psycho-thrillers of Thomas Harris and Michael Connelly and other masters of the dark arts of abnormal pathology' Guardian. 'One of the most likeable vigilante serial killers in recent thriller literature ... Like other charismatic killers - Hannibal Lecter, say, or Tom Ripley - Dexter has a set of motives that are tough to untangle. But his quest proves weirdly convincing' New Yorker. 'A sleek black comedy' Literary Review. 'It's been years since there's been a thriller debut as original as this one ... humorous, self-deprecating, smart and sometimes lyrical ... a gripping, deliciously offbeat novel' Publishers Weekly. 'It's a great idea. And it's easy to see why this debut novel has gone down a storm ... the whole thing is stylish, polished and very readable' Mirror. 'Long after readers finish this gripping novel, they will still be thinking (or dreaming) about Dexter' Booklist. '[A] mcabre tour-de- force' New York Times. Rights have been sold around the world.

If you have watched the TV series Dexter - you will not be disappointed in this book. It is even better than the TV series, as you get further insights into the way Dexter Morgan thinks, and dare I say it, how he feels. There are major differences in the book versus the TV series, and all for the better enjoyment of reading a fantastic book. If you are into new experiences, this is one for you, as a serial killer goes out to kill BAD people.....and you end up actually liking the guy...The running commentary by Dexter is amazing as you can really get into his head, so it feels like you know Dexter Morgan by the end of the book......Do yourself a favour this year and definitely read this book! There is a new master of suspense!!
Talk about craftmanship within the mind of a serial killer with reason. Dexter Morgan, a bloke thats not so normal with an urge to kill, his step father harry taught him how to use this urge for good, meaning that dexter only kills the guilty that get away. Dexter is also a blood forensic expert during the day meaning that he understand the framework better than anyone on how to not leave evidence and what small fragments can show him about other killers. This book brings you into a world where homicide is searching for a killer, that keeps slipping messages that connect to Dexters life, with big twist and a massive finally, this book crushes any crime book out there for thrills and spills and all that kills. And remember this is only Lindsays first book. With another that was just released and with another on the way and a TV show that was made, though it has only played on showtime in the states, but u can order the box set as it is one of the greatest shows ever and was nominated at the emmys.
Having seen the tv series, reading the book seamed like I was watching the whole thing over again, as the series has copied the book word for word bar a few minor details, I don't want to spoil it for anyone but there is a major difference at the end. This is a good surprize because of the sameness of it all.
hey, this is a pretty good book,
after finishing this book, i'm eager to
read the others
if your into this kind of stuff (crime, murder, mystery)
then you should read this book series
A mediocre read. Incredibly overrated. The TV series is much better. Usually the book is better than the film or series but this time, the series improves on the book.
I love the TV Series of Dexter. So to read the book after, you get a good picture of characters and what is going on.
Obviously it cuts out heaps from the TV Series. (I know it orginiated from the book). But its different to read about blood and police work than to see it.
I still prefer to see it, but this is a good book!
