If you liked Roberts’ Key trilogy, or the Three Sisters series, you will like ‘Blood Brothers’. This first book in yet another trilogy is Roberts at her best. Yes, the theme is typical Roberts—three men and three women come together to fight a big bad bogeyman, and one novel concentrates on each pairing—but oh, the writing. The depth of characters, the comprehension of grey within black and white evil-versus-good, and the language. The beautiful language that is Roberts’ trademark. Yes, people have said her last few novels have been a little lacklustre, but with ‘Blood Brothers’ she’s back to top quality. Twenty years ago, something happened to three best friends, all born at the same time on the same day, when they go camping near the Pagan Stone. They now have to face the Seven, where every seven years for seven days the townsfolk perform unspeakable acts of violence, but each time the dark power released two decades ago gets stronger. Enter author Quinn Black, who wants to write about the phenomenon, and finds far more than she expected.
