#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR JANET EVANOVICH ONE FOR THE MONEY A Stephanie Plum Novel "Comes roaring in like a blast of very fresh air...Goes down like a tall, cool, drink." -"The Washington Post" READ THE DYNAMITE BLOCKBUSTER THAT STARTED IT ALL! "Snappily written, fast paced and witty." -"USA Today" ONE FINE MESS Welcome to Trenton, New Jersey, home to wiseguys, average Joes, and Stephanie Plum, who sports a big attitude and even bigger money problems (since losing her job as a lingerie buyer for a department store). Stephanie needs cash-fast-but times are tough, and soon she's forced to turn to the last resort of the truly desperate: family... ONE FALSE MOVE Stephanie lands a gig at her sleazy cousin Vinnie's bail bonding company. She's got no experience. But that doesn't matter. As does the fact that the bail jumper in question is local vice cop Joe Morelli. From the time he first looked up her dress to the time he first got into her pants, to the time Steph hit him with her father's Buick, M-o-r-e-l-l-i has spelled t-r-o-u-b-l-e. And now the hot guy is in hot water-wanted for murder... ONE FOR THE MONEY Abject poverty is a great motivator for learning new skills, but being trained in the school of hard knocks by people like psycho prizefighter Benito Ramirez isn't. Still, if Stephanie can nab Morelli in a week, she'll make a cool ten grand. All she has to do is become an expert bounty hunter overnight-and keep herself from getting killed before she gets her man... "Evanovich is funny and ceaselessy inventive." -"Los Angeles Times Book Review" "Evanovich's writing is smooth, clever and laugh-aloud. Her plot isingenious and fresh, her dialogue breezy, bright, witty, and gutsy." -"Booklist "p0(starred Review)

The first and the best in this series of Janet Evanovich books. It is very funny, as in laugh out loud, not something that I do with a lot of books. The characters are a bit over the top but endearing and the plot is whacky but believable. The next two novels follow in the same witty tradtion before the whole series slips into repetition and goes down hill.

I love the Janet Evanovich books. The characters are fantastic and the writing is laugh out loud funny. Stephanie Plum is a bounty hunter, she is a terrible bounty hunter but occasionally manages to catch the bad guy through good luck and help from on-again off-again boyfriend Morelli the cop and from fellow bounty hunter Ranger.

This is the first book in the Stephanie Plum series. Stephanie has lost her job and her car is repossesed. She goes to work as a bounty hunter for her cousin Vinnie, and her first job is to track down Joe Morelli, a cop who has failed to appear for his court appearance. Stephanie and Joe have a long history, from playing choo choo in his father's garage when she was six, to losing her virginity to him at sixteen, to running him over in her father's car and breaking his leg. With the help of primo bounty hunter Ranger, Stephanie eventually clears Morelli and uncovers the bad guys - even if she has to lock Joe in the back of a refrigerator truck with three dead bodies!
This book is hilarious and will have you laughing out loud from the first couple of pages. A must read!

Meet Stephanie Plum and her amazingly funny family. Stephanie needs money fast and can only make rent by working for her greasy cousin Vinnie as a bounty hunter. Going from a lingerie buyer to catching low lifes with no experience and no idea is hilarious. Follow the journey with Stephanie to make rent... and to get even. The first in many fantastic reads in this series.

The first of the Stephanie Plum novels, this is crime fun at it's best! I loved these books so much I read them all in 12 days straight, one after the other! Going through cars as fast as most people go through hot dinners, Stephanie is down on her luck when she blackmails her cousin into employing her in his bond agency as a bounty hunter. What follows is a fast paced race to get her man... but which one will she choose? After bad cop Joe Morelli, who she lost her virginity to many years ago, Stephanie meets many interesting characters... her Grandmother who likes to attend viewings of the dead, Ranger, who helps her learn the trade... get into Stephanie Plum!

This is the first of Stephanie's big adventures as a Bounty Hunter. Forced into the job by a severe lack of cash after being sacked from her job as a lingerie buyer she is soon chasing Joe Morelli (a vice cop on the run from a murder charge) for a $10,000 reward.
Does Stephanie get her man? I won't say whether or not but the chase is great fun, with Stephanie's inside knowledge of the Burg helping her out on numerous occasions. This book is a great introduction to the other Stephanie Plum books and we get to meet her parents, Ranger, Lulu and of course, Joe Morelli.
If you don't take life too seriously and are happy to fall off the sofa laughing, this is the book for you.

One For The Money is the first of the Stephanie Plum novels. It isn't that bad it just isn't really anything special. It has its tongue planted in its cheek and thinks it is much better than it really is. The trouble is the whole thing grates and heavy handedness is mistaken for humour. You want to like the book but its just too superficial.
