Detective Alex Cross is back in this bestselling follow-up to "Roses Are Red." Two joggers are brutally slain in San Francisco in a macabre ritual reminiscent of a case in Washington, D.C. that Cross has been unable to solve. As the carnage leaves a trail of bodies across America, a vicious criminal from Cross's past known as the Mastermind once again taunts him. From The Publisher: When two joggers are found brutally slain in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park in a manner that suggests a macabre ritual, Detective Alex Cross is called in to investigate. The bizarre murders are reminiscent of a Washington, D.C., case that Cross has been unable to solve. With the help of a female San Francisco detective, Cross' investigation takes him deep inside a menacing world where role playing explodes into bloodlust and frenzy. At the same time, a vicious super-criminal from Cross' past known as the Mastermind is stalking him. And in a shocking, deadly endgame, the detective will at last discover the awful secret of the Mastermind. |

– Customer review on 05/04/2007 Another Alex Cross novel sees Cross investigating the brutal murders of a pair of joggers which is strangely reminiscent of a crime that has haunted Cross for years. He finds himself digging into the past and chasing a trail of carnage accross the country. This an ok story readable but not memorable.

– Customer review on 02/02/2007 I love James Patterson and enjoy most of his books, but I found this one to be just too strange with some cringe worthy moments which saw me finish this book quite quickly due to skipping some sections. Having said that, it is typical James Patterson - well written and easy to read, perfect as a distraction on a flight or holiday reading, but probably not one you would want to keep on your shelf to read again (unless you are a diehard collector).

– Customer review on 17/01/2007 It was strange to start a book knowing 'whodunnit' from the start...or at least who was responsible for the murders in Cross's previous case. It worked though and I found myself waiting for The Mastermind to make his move or Alex to work out who it was.
I have to say I was probably more interested in that conclusion than the main (I think!) plot concerning numerous killings where victims had been drained of blood or bitten to death, which seemed a bit far-fetched.
That said, I still enjoyed reading it.

– Customer review on 06/01/2007 Of all the James Patterson books, this was my least favorite. It was written just fine but the vampire theme didn't appeal to me personally. I was reading it to see if Dr. Cross determined who the Mastermind was. It just took a while to get to that point. I'm not disappointed that I purchased it. It just wasn't one of my favorites.

– Customer review on 19/12/2006 James Patterson brings another thriller to life in his Alex Cross series. I liked this book as I have liked most of his other books. Cross is a compelling character and he makes you think and feel as he does. Recommended for those who are used to the way of James Pattersons writing, not a good recomendation if its your first Patterson book

– Customer review on 14/10/2006 I enjoyed this as much as I enjoyed roses are red, maybe more.
Again, I could have just kept on reading, way longer than I should have! Now I really want another!
One thing I find, reading Alex Cross books, is that I hear the words spoken by Alex, in Morgan Freemans voice. I think I quite like that!

– Customer review on 29/01/2006 The last story in the Alex Cross series. In this last book Alex Cross investigates modern day vampire killings. It is full of thrilling action scenes and horrific killing scenes. Alex will do whatever it takes to bring these killers to justice, but the real criminal calls himself "The Mastermind" - a psycho who has been haunting Alex for two books. Violets are Blue is definitely the best of the series. As he ends the story, what better way to do it than to finally find out who the mastermind really is? Alex Cross will be betrayed in this last book. I would recommend this book for those over 14 yrs. You won't be disappointed.

– Customer review on 28/01/2006 James Patterson turns smut writer. While this is a good story, this is NOT for everyone. Particularly if you could do without pages of sex and violence. Although it was a fast paced read, I wanted to get rid of it as soon as I read it, which is unusual as I tend to horde James Patterson books. This is definitely not one to give to your Grandmother for Christmas.
