This is the first in the Raintree trilogy, the other two to be written by Linda Winstead Jones and Beverly Barton respectively. It’s not a bad book [hey, it’s a Howard], but despite fires and shootings and psychic cadres, not much happens. It’s more about the relationship between the head of the Raintree clan, Dante [his casino is called the Inferno. Clever, huh?] and Lorna, a psychic pretending to herself she isn’t psychic. The Raintrees defeated the Ansara clan two hundred years ago, but now the Ansaras are back, and want revenge. Dante, and now Lorna, are in their sights, as is the Raintree haven of Sanctuary.
