– Customer review on 27/05/2008 Fantastic. This sequel to ‘Blood Brothers’ is just as good, the characters delightful, the word usage as meaningful as her other novels, and yes I know the trilogy style is almost stereotypical of Roberts now, but she’s so good at it. This time it’s the turn of Layla and Fox, although all the characters introduced in the first novel play an important part, as do the secondary characters, and this is where Roberts’ greatness lies. All of her characters, important or otherwise, are drawn lovingly and individually. The ‘demon’ or whatever Twisse is, is gaining strength, and the clock is ticking down to the blood-curdling finale. It’s not the time for two people to be attracted to each other, especially a woman from new York and a man whose life is in Hawkins Hollow, but hearts do what they must. The romance, sweet though it is, is just one of the plotlines in this multi-layered metaphysical novel. No, it’s not hard-core gritty realism, but it’s still scary and dramatic and romantic and fun. I suggest you read ‘Blood brothers’ first.
