The third in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series, this follows Zsadist, the most fearsome and volatile of the Brotherhood with a horrific past as an abused blood-slave behind him; even his comrades find him hard to trust and understand at the best of times, and the only one who seems to care for him is his brother Phury, who saved him from slavery many years ago. However, the vampire beauty Bella has become fascinated by him, but she is captured by the Lessening Society and goes through horrible torture at their hands. Zsadist obsessively searches for her and succeeds in rescuing her, and tries his best to heal her while he himself has to come to terms with his past and his own unhealed wounds.

This is a wonderful example of paranormal romance, and easily the best Black Dagger Brotherhood novel to date. Zsadist is a truly interesting and genuinely tormented protagonist, and Bella is a strong and compelling heroine. The book also plays around with gender roles found in romance novels somewhat, with Bella doing the majority of the courting while Zsadist is the emotionally vulnerable one, which was interesting and never felt forced for a second. The stories and development of the other characters are also handled quite well, especially that of Phury and newcomer John. The romance is sublimely and very satisfyingly done, and is deeply touching. A must-read if you’ve been following this series so far, and fans of Anne Bishop and Sherrylin Kenyon will find something to keep them happy in this book too. Very highly recommended.

This is definitely my favorite of J.R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood series and that's because how can you help but fall in love with Zsadist, the vampire tragic hero? Kidnapped as an infant and sold into slavery, Zsadist is deliciously dark and dangerous. The vampire Bella was kidnapped in book two, 'Lover Eternal', and is rescued by Zsadist, who wants Bella with an uncommon passion, but can't get past his own demons to make her his.

A must-read for Ward fans, and worthy of a place on the To Be Read stack of all paranormal romance lovers.

great read, and thoroughly enjoyed being hurled into the world of fiction. suspense, laughter, sadness, passion, hope and relief every emotion possile is coaxed and stimulated.

This is definitely my favourite of the first 3 books in the series. Zsadist and Bellas story keeps you hooked from the beginning right to the end. JR Ward writes fantastic characters and this storyline ensures you go through all the emotions of the main characters. Even though this story is about Z and Bella, JR Ward makes sure that the other members of the brotherhood are not left out. By the end of this story you will be hanging out for more!!!

A wonderful and absorbing read, certainly at the standard of her previous two books in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series of Dark Lover and Lover Eternal. As usual everything is there the great characters, the interaction of the brothers, the romance and of course the action.

The storyline and fast moving plot is an awesome read that you cannot wait to finish but unfortunately there are only three books in the series with the fourth not published until March 2007.

Oh. My. Goodness. These books just get better and better with each one! I can't wait till March for Butch's story! This is Zsadist's story, his and Bella's. Dark, tormented hero, what more could a girl want! Even if you don't like vampire stories, you should try JR Ward. This book was fantastic, than goodness there are more in the series. Definately Recommended!

Wow. Let me reiterate. Wow. ‘Lover Awakened’ stars Zsadist, the scarred, scary, psycho-vamp who is close to losing his mind, but loses his heart instead. He is searching for Bella, the female vampire who has been kidnapped…or maybe vamp-napped would be better. His twin brother, unscarred and gorgeous Phury, is also helping search for Bella, knowing he is fiercely attracted to her. What no one expects is that Z, the vamp without a conscience, without emotions, the legend of horror stories, has unwillingly found a bondmate in Bella, and to everyone’s surprise, especially Zsadist’s, she reciprocates. Oh my god! They just get better! Bella and Zadist's story is so immensely absorbing and satisfying I just couldn't put this book down until the very end! Read it in one sitting and suffered the consequences the following day due to lack of sleep!!! I'm such a HUGE fan of this writer, she can't write fast enough for me...now I have to wait until April 2007 for Butch and Marissa's story - what am I gonna do??? LOL!

i must say i wonder why people like this book? i regret ever buying the first three books by this author, after reading so many positive review. However i was disappointed by the language used. childish and whats with the baby powder smell? did the author ran out description or something? plus the switching between characters pov is badly done. people who read Sherrilyn kenyon books could pick out the similarities that J.R ward used throughout her books esp the third book who is similir to Dance with the devil book by Sherrilyn Kenyon. even the male character name start with a Z. overall do not buy this book. what i recommend are Kresley Cole. she writes the best paranormal books ever.
