Dream Hunter is a slightly different installment in the Dark Hunter series, as it's main character, Arik, is not, in fact, a dark hunter, but a dream hunter (hence the title), which is a different beast altogether.
Dream hunters are beings who (after being cursed by the gods) are doomed to feel no emotions, save those they can siphon off humans in their dreams. They are divided into two groups, the Skotos and the Oneroi, with the Skotos being the more "evil" of the two.
This book is a journey into the history and myth of Atlantis, and the old Atlantean gods, while also telling the story of a "god" discovering his humanity.
It is a little different from the other stories in the Dark Hunter series, and the characters seem a little stilted for some reason, but it is still interesting and gives insight into characters from the other books, so it's worth a read if you're a Sherrilyn Kenyon fan.
Fantastic, gripping, brought me to the edge of my seat, couldn't put it down. was totally captivated. "Dream Hunter" was the perfect book for me. it really captivated me into the story and made for very good reading! most enjoyable. Sherrilyn Kenyon is a fantastic writer and I look forward to reading her other publications! Excellent reading!
I enjoyed this book very much, although it is slightly off-beat and a little different from her other dark hunter novels. But they do all tie in with each other, so when you read other books in the series you really appreciate all the background info provided. Fantasy Lover is more in-depth with the romance than with the danger, magic and heroics of other Sherrilyn Kenyon books, but it's still worth the read for those who are a fan of her work.
The latest of Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter series is a welcome addition to the series. While not the best of the series, this book is still a fantastic read. It gives great insite into Acheron's character (as much as possible considering its a prequel). There are also hints at where Sherrilyn is planing on taking the underlying story of the dark hunters. If you liked the rest of the series, then this book should be on your shelves already.
Really well-written, plaudits to Kenyon, and yet I plodded my way through, admiring the writing all the time. Maybe it was just too over-packed with mythology for my taste, maybe it was that I felt little connection to the characters, in fact they’re a little boring. Maybe it’s just that I like the Dark-Hunters better, but I found it difficult to get into this novel. Arik is condemned only to feel when he is in the dreams of others, and feel he does when he enters Megeara’s dreams. Geary feels a lot as well, when she encounters Arik in her dreams, even more so when she fishes a man who looks a lot like her dream man out of the water. What she doesn’t know is that Arik has made a pact with Hades. In exchange for two weeks as a mortal man he must return to Olympus with Megeara’s soul. For those of you interested in Katra, you find out a a lot more about her in this book.
Dream Hunter was the first book I've read by author Sherrilyn Kenyon. I found her style of writing easy to read and very enjoyable. The plot was great all the way until the last few chapters, where I found it a bit predictable. I would still recommend it though.
Dream Hunter is the latest book in the Dark Hunter series, the plot and story line displayed the usual Kenyon style and pace with an intersting mix of characters, I feel she failed to develop the relationship between the two main characters as she has done so effortlessly in her previous books.
Still a entertaining read with plenty of action and of course romance, would recommend but not one of her best efforts.
