This writer always starts further into the book than I like but this is a very interesting book. carpathians are what vampires used to be before they turned dark. dying out because they have no mates this is a series of how they are discovering that the fey had long lost blood lines all over the earth. in this one our hero is a little close to loosing his good side so he feels a little rushed so he pushes his mate a little far and she confused with all her burdens let alone new feelings for him fights herself and him. she is about to loose the farm and her two siblings, when a vampire moves onto the property and the ones that were going to take her brother and sister end up helping her as they hunt vampires.

Maybe it's just me, but I really struggled to get into the whole vampire-thing and it's dark side. Rafael character was sooo intense that he was almost scarey to read about. And the whole mind-control business just annoyed me, because it took alot of Colby's free-will.

On the other hand, the love-scenes in this book are HOT HOT HOT!!! The hottest I've read (and I've read a few books!). This book is seriously highly sexually charged.

So why only 4 stars????
I just struggled to get into it...the whole vampire thing doesn't isn't me..._sigh_ oh well, better luck with the next book :-)

This book is one of her best, in my opinion! I love the feisty attitude that Colby possesses and her resilient attitude in keeping the Chevez family from stealing her brother and sister. She may have been able to fight the Chevez family but she was no match for the De La Cruz brothers, especially Raphael who has alternative motives - determined to claim her and take her back to Brazil. But Colby is having none of it. Excellent read!

I loved this book so much! Colby is the most resistant lifemate in the whole series - and thats what makes their relationship so explosive. Colby owns a ranch and is hell bent on keeping her half brother and sister away from the clutches of the Chevez family, who abandoned their father. However she didn't count on their back up, The De La Cruz brothers, especially Rafael who stole her breath at one glance.

While I love all of Feehan's vampires, some of them are definitely better than others. This book falls into the category of "better than others". While the typical storyline of find lifemate, fight vampire, convert lifemate and live happily ever after is still there, Feehan manages to make this winning combination unique by giving us interesting and complex characters and a secondary plot which serves to make this book stand out from the rest in the series. I recommend this book to all readers of paranormal romance but do suggest that you read the other books in the series first so that you know what everyone is talking about.

First off, let me tell you that the hero is an arrogant sos-and-so with extremly
out-dated ideas of the position of women in a relationship, but if that doesn't put you off, you are in for a treat of a novel which is most assuredly up to Christine Feehan's wonderful standards, besides its fun watching the heroine down a few notches.

I would highly recomend this novel to all vampire lovers, and the best thing is that you don't nessarily have to read the other books before this one as the characters from her other books aren't mentioned to the extent they are in other books. However, I would recommend that you read Dark Destiny and Dark Hunger (in Hot Blooded) as some characters are mentioned in passing.
