Acclaimed author Kresley Cole introduces a sizzling new series with this tale of a fierce werewolf and a bewitching vampire -- unlikely soul mates whose passion will test the boundaries of life and death.
"A mythic warrior who'll stop at nothing to possess her . . ."
After enduring years of torture from the vampire horde, Lachlain MacRieve, leader of the Lykae Clan, is enraged to find the predestined mate he's waited millennia for is a vampire. Or partly one. This Emmaline is a small, ethereal half Valkyrie/half vampire, who somehow begins to soothe the fury burning within him.
"A vampire captured by her wildest fantasy . . ."
Sheltered Emmaline Troy finally sets out to uncover the truth about her deceased parents -- until a powerful Lykae claims her as his mate and forces her back to his ancestral Scottish castle. There, her fear of the Lykae -- and their notorious dark desires -- ebbs as he begins a slow, wicked seduction to sate her own dark cravings.
"An all-consuming desire . . ."
Yet when an ancient evil from her past resurfaces, will their desire deepen into a love that can bring a proud warrior to his knees and turn a gentle beauty into the fighter she was born to be?
Includes an excerpt from Kresley Cole's next romance novel, "No Rest for the Wicked."

Kresley Cole has done a lovely job with this book, once you pick it up you don't want to put it down. You can see the characters grow during the book. A great read.
Fabulous! Having read a lot of quite mediocre vampire/paranormal romances, 'A Hunger Like No Other' was bowl-me-over excellent. The male lead, werewolf Lochlain, is HOT LIKE FIRE. Strike that, he's hot like MAGMA. Added to that, the story is steamily good. Young half vampire-half Valkyrie Emmaline is caught up in Lochlain's embrace from a few pages into this novel and the tension that builds between them as they fight their way through different battles is oh-my-god-knock-me-over exquisite.
I simply cannot say enough good things about this book. Within an hour of having started it, I got online and ordered the rest of the available series and the first book, which is part of an anthology called 'Playing Easy to Get'. You will too. Not all the other books are as fabulous, but they are well worth it!
I really loved this book. The characters were eccentric and believeable, and the story moved along at an exciting pace with lots of interesting secondary characters to build a background you want to explore further.
I've now read all of Kresley Cole's Immortals After Dark series, but this remains my favourite. They're all cleverly written, and you're drawn into that irresistible world of the Lore that you so wish really existed, but this first book feels less written to a specific structure, although in all of them the sex scenes get a bit tiresome and they all seem to follow the pattern of oral sex first, then not penetrational sex until near the end which becomes predictable. Kresley's characters are funny and interesting, but man does she go into too much detail in the sex scenes. Sometimes things are sexier when your imagination can fill in the specifics!
If it helps for others looking for books in the supernatural romance genre, I've also really enjoyed the Dark Hunter series by Sherilyn Kenyon and J. R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood. Kresley's writing is in the same, snappy modern style with lots of action (and sex scenes that are drawn out for a chapter or more.)
It seems to me that you have to have a real sense of humur to read paranormal romances like this one. It is the beginning of a series and tells the tale of a romance between two mis-matched characters who really should be mortal enemies. Needless to say they have come together because they are fated to be 'mates'. The only problem is...they have murdering vampires after them and both have families/clans who will not see the positive side of their union. But don't worry, all in a day's work for these two. Great fun for its genre.
These paranormal romances always make me laugh - the heroines are gorgeous and feisty, the heroes are incredibly tall. And the story lines are so daft at times. Anyway, enough of my moaning. This was a jolly read that will appeal to most paranormal readers. I have to confess, I'll probably read the next few books as long as they don't go on to much and lose originality.
By far one of the best series i have come across in a long time. Fast paced with no irrelevant details to bore a person. Some of the most humourous characters to keep you holding your breath for the next book in the Immortals After Dark Series. Highly recommend to all, Feehan, Kenyon, Knight fans!!
This was the first Kresley Cole book I have read and I throughly enjoyed the main characters and interesting plot. If you enjoy Feehan and Kenyon you will enjoy this book.
The story of Lachlain and Emmaline is well written with great supporting characters that round out the storyline and keep you turning the pages.
Definitely interested in reading the next in the series.
If you like Christine Feehan or Sherrilyn Kenyon, you’ll probably like this novel. Heck, it even has a touch of Moning, thanks to Highlander werewolf Lachlain MacRieve. ‘A Hunger Like No Other’ mightn’t have the plotline or the humour that makes the other authors so enjoyable, but the characters are fascinating. Lachlain is ruler of the Lykae, or werewolves. He was imprisoned over a century ago by the extremely unpleasant vampire Demetrius, and for the past 150 years Lachlain, an immortal, has been regularly burning to death and then coming back to life, only to be reborn again, and again, and . . . well, you get the painful idea. When Lachlain senses the presence of his mate, after centuries of searching, he gets the strength to break free and go in search of her. He is expecting a Lykae. Instead, he finds Emmaline.
Emmaline is part vampire, part Valkyrie, and wholly timid. She has never met a real vampire, having been adopted by her Valkyrie aunts who hate vamps with a passion, just as do the Lykae. Emma is searching for information about the parents she has never met when she is slam-dunked by Lachlain. Both she and Lachlain are horrified to find she might be his destined mate. Emma knows that Lykae are little more than beasts, and Lachlain’s clan is determined to wipe out the vampire horde. Still, they end up at his fortress in Scotland, and we all know what happens . . . again, and again, and again, because hey, the Lykae are very sexual creatures. Toss in Valkyrie attacks and a beheading or two, and you have a good read.
