This is the first book I have read by Johanna Lindsey. Takes me back to my high school days. I was lucky that the first book was a Melory one. I love all the Melories and James Melory in particular. The Brick Wall imagery stayed with me for a long time. I also loved George's character and the many curious situations she found herself in as a result of being disguised as the cabin boy was simply hillarious! I found the romance bits very steamy and intriguing as well. All in all a great read for a cold winter afternoon.
While James Malory was something of an annoyance, Georgina's contrary ways and originality made this book a pleasant read. I liked the way that neither of them ever really surrendered - and that even when it looked like James was the winner of their little battle of the sexes, you knew that "George" was going to be calling the shots.
The tension between them was interesting at the start (I'll say no more on that) and though Georgina's naievety was blush-making she was a good character.
While not the best in Lindsey's Malory series, it's certainly worth a read!
A true malory novel. Lots of passion and humour that keeps you turning the pages.
I don't know how Lindsey does it, but she is able to create engaging characters that draw you into the book to keep you reading to the very end. You want to read it to know what happens and when you reach the end your disappointed because its over. Only one thing to do in that case, read it again. Most Of Johanna Lindsey's books are a treasure that are throughly researched giving good context to the stories and likeable characters. Enjoy!
I couldn't put it down! GENTLE ROGUE is definitely one of the best romance novels that I've ever read. James and Georgie are endearing characters; I fell in love with them instantly! Their story is full of passion and humor. Gentle Rogue is one of the earlier stories in Johanna Lindsey's Malory series, and sets the foundation for the stories that come later. Start here and work your way through! you wont be disappointed
I want a man like James Malory! I couldn't wait to get my hands on James Book... and Georgina is the perfect heroine for him! Yet another fantastic Malory story, written by Johanna Lindsey at her best! This is one of my favourite Malory books, perfect for snuggling up on cold nights with.
Another brillent novel regarding the Malory family, this time with James Malory the ex pirate meets Georgina Anderson who disguises as his cabin boy, on one of his journey to the west indies. Lots of twists and romance in this story, great story to read, you won't be able to put it down
If you love the other Mallory storys this is just as good. I makes you fall in love with the mallory's all over again. As with all the other ones I read this one in a day I just could not put it down. It was a gret mixture of love and adventure. As always Johanna outdid herself
If you like the other Mallory stories, you'll love this one too. If you haven't tried them yet this one is still a good read. James the scoundrel/pirate is abhout to meet his waterloo, in the other books you have seen his various family members fall in love a become married off. For a family that don't like to cause scandals they seem to pick the wrong partners. However where there is a will there is a way as the family come up with various cover stories.
A Gentle Rogue was one of the first Johanna Lindsay's that I read and it is still one of my absolute favourites of all time from this author. Without giving too much of the story away, Georgina "George" Anderson takes a job as a cabin boy on James Malory's ship in order to return to America. James, a renown rake and pirate (although not by his true name) immediately suspects that cabin boy "George" is not what he seems. What follows is a tale of seduction on the high seas and a love which will defy personal vows, meddling brothers and American- English rivalry.
In all, this book is extremely well written, the tale well structured and the dialouge well sprinkled with laugh-out-loud wit. I highly reccomend this book to anyone who enjoys romance and, as a final note, while it is not absoutely essential to have read this series in order, references are made to events which occured in other books.
