Having been quite distrubed by the content of Wideacre, I was hesitant to continue reading the trilogy. With the favoured child Philippa Gregory again seems to touch on the taboo subject, which I didnt enjoy, but this time I felt it was dealt with better and the story seemed to catch my attention more. Very different from her other books but still a good read.

An excellent sequal to Wideacre which follows the life of Julia, Beatrice's daughter rasied by Celia. Not as troubling as the first one but still easily manages to keep the same theme that Wideacre set. Although the story line is similar with Julia and her cousin Richard both able to inherit Wideacre, Julia and Beatrice are so different that The Favoured Child still has it's surprising twists. Definately recommended.
