The prequel to The Prodigal Daughter is about two men who although one being rich and powerful, Kane and the other a poor emigrant, Abel. There is a huge build up as Abel makes his way in the world and does well for himself and starts a family. Kane being intelligent and given access to money makes a name for himself. The Rivalry between these two men is immense and it is only at the closure of the novel that we fully find out the connection between the two men.
Like all of Archer's novels this is a must read. The relationship between these two men and the events that occur entrall the reader, you wont be able to put it down!!
What can you really say about one of the best books ever written? If you haven't read it yet you are missing out. This epic book spans 60 years of the lives of two incredibly powerful men who absolutely hate each other. It amazes me every time I read this book of how easily misunderstandings can happen and how they can escalate to such a grand scale.
This is not really that interesting. Two kids, one rich and one poor. The poor kid has to work for everything he gets in Eastern Europe, while the rich kid in Boston gets the food, education, cars, girls, booze, contacts etc. pretty much set out for him. They both aspire to be the tycoon type, blah, blah, etc. etc.
EXCELLENT EXCELLENT BOOK! I loved it. Found it on Dad's bookshelf and got curious so i opened the book read the first page and was hooked! Beautifully written. This book makes you laugh and makes you cry and makes you shout NO! right along with the characters. Definitly highly recommended. If you havent read it you are seriously missing out on the best piece of written works.
This is an astounding and addictive book. I had not heard of it before I read it, but since have found it is very well known. The characters which Archer has created here are so very real and at times admirable, this book is very hard to put down. The story is epic and beautifully written. This book is a great read for those above about age 14, and I think will appeal to many!
This book is an excellent tale that will have readers hooked from the first page. It is an exceptionally moving and well written story which deserves the acclaim it has received over the years. It is quite well known, and deservedly so. It is an important book, offering the reader an inspirational message of triumph over adversity, and it champions the stoicism seen in each of the main characters, without doing so overtly. Ultimately, all the characters are challenged in their stance, and this easily devoured book is well worth the read.
