– Customer review on 05/10/2006 To be wizard, it helps a great deal to be someone who was born as the eigth son of an eigth son. Such is the magical quality of the number 8 on the Discworld. The eighth son of an eigth son of an eigth son (the eigth son of wizard) is known as a sourcerer. In Discworld history, sourcerers were responsible for the terrible Mage Wars and as such wizards are forbidden from having children just in case. That doesn't stop a particular randy wizard who eventually sires number 8 - a sourcerer! Instead of a hero turning up to save the day, we get the inept "wizzard" Rincewind. The character of Rincewind gets a little trying here and the plot gets a bit messy in parts but for the most part "Sourcery" is a decent entry into the Discworld canon.
