Moving forward after Wizard and Glass we come to know how the people still left in mid-world are struggling to survive in a world that has moved on .This volume sees our ka-tet of Roland,Jake,Eddie,Susannah, and Oy the billy-bumbler, reach a place known as Calla Bryn Sturgis where we meet a strangely familiar character known as Pere Callahan, fans may be surprised to recognise a character from an earlier Stephen King novel making a resurrgance but then of course this is Stephen King at his finest!
Wolves of the Calla, in my opinion, does the best job of any Dark Tower book so far of telling a story about people's lives in the world of the Dark Tower. In prior books, the towns/cities that were traveled through were secondary to the journey to the Dark Tower (Tull, Lud, Topeka, etc.). Calla Bryn Sturgis, however, is the entire focus of this book, and while that may make some answer-hungry readers upset, I still found that I enjoyed it immensely.
Picking up from Wizard and Glass, Wolves of the Calla moves the story onwards at a great pace, and is perhaps the best series of events in the final three books (all written close in time - the others are spread over thirty plus years of publishing - and spilling across storylines with cliffhangers that make these final three a clear trilogy within the wider series of seven books). Wolves is the most 'complete' of the last entries in the Dark Tower Series, and the most satisfying. Sadly, it's downhill from here.
