Novelisations tend to be trashy fiction and rarely bring anything new to the movie experience or background. UNLESS they're written by Alan Dean Foster. If you enjoyed the Alien movies or, like me, resent the turn they took after the first two excellent ones, you'll enjoy Foster's take on things (he too shares my disappointment with the third & fourth). Foster writes well, engaging the reader quickly and giving plenty of in depth information about the motivations & relationships of characters. You only see glimpses of the many soldiers picked off quickly in Aliens, but in the novelisation, you will get to know each and every one of them. An absolute MUST for anyone wanting to enhance their Alien movie experience.
